World’s First Wine Theme Park Opens in France

By Paul Joseph

The world’s first ever “wine theme park” is to open today in southwestern France.

Called La Cité du Vin, the park is located in the city of Bordeaux, one of the most famous wine regions in the world.

Expecting to attract 450,000 visitors per year, the $92-million development is spread across 10 storeys and takes a comprehensive look at wine through multiple cultures, civilizations and ages.

It features 20 themed areas, wine-tasting sessions, educational wine courses and tours, a restaurant, and a wine bar with more than 50 types of wine.

There is also a simulated boat tour, which takes you on a merchant’s galley around the globe, and a special wine boutique where you can purchase over 80 different types of wine.

According to a press release, even the building’s architecture is designed to resemble the swirling wine in a glass, as the “horizontal and vertical lines are linked in a unique continuous motion”.

Admission to La Cite du Vin is priced at €20 per person.
