YAMAKAY is a striking 42.36-metre modern schooner offering a rare combination of distinctive design, generous volume and genuine sailing capability. Built by CMN Yacht Division in France, with naval architecture by Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group and a design lineage inspired by Dick Carter, she has a strong pedigree and an unmistakable presence on the water.
Originally launched as Friday Star, YAMAKAY was later comprehensively transformed into a luxury sailing yacht by Couedel Hugon Design. The result is a contemporary interior and exterior identity that blends carbon fibre, aluminium, leather and matte wood with the proportions and character of a large three-masted schooner.
Her expansive flush deck provides generous areas for relaxing and sunbathing, while the aft dining space beneath a hard Bimini creates an inviting setting for outdoor entertaining. Three carbon masts, hydraulic furling systems and centrally located sailing controls allow her substantial sail plan to be managed efficiently, reinforcing her appeal as both a serious sailing yacht and a comfortable cruising platform.
YAMAKAY accommodates up to 10 guests in four ensuite cabins. The arrangement includes a spacious forward Master suite with an office area, two versatile cabins that can be configured as doubles or twins and include additional Pullman berths, plus a further upper-and-lower berth cabin. Separate crew accommodation aft provides space for up to four crew with dedicated access.
Her interior offers several distinct living areas, including a deck saloon with dining for up to 12 and a lower saloon with leather seating and entertainment facilities. A professional full-beam galley, dedicated crew mess and practical separation between guest and service areas make her well suited to extended private cruising.
A 430 HP Volvo diesel engine provides auxiliary propulsion, while twin Kohler generators support the yacht’s hotel and hydraulic systems. Retractable bow and stern thrusters, hydraulic windlasses, a hydraulic gangway and swimming ladder further enhance ease of operation and comfort when cruising or manoeuvring in port.
With her three-masted profile, extensive guest spaces, contemporary refit and distinctive design pedigree, YAMAKAY presents an unusual opportunity for an owner seeking a large sailing yacht with strong visual character, flexible accommodation and the capability for memorable long-range cruising.
