Rumours are rife that the next movie in the iconic James Bond franchise is to feature an ell-electric Aston Martin Rapid E.

The soon-to-be-launched Rapid E is the British marquee’s first electric vehicle, with only 155 examples to be built, each priced at around £250,000.

According to The Sun newspaper, an insider said that “The decision was spearheaded by the film’s new director, who’s a total tree-hugger. He is working directly with Aston Martin to get one of their electric cars ready for its big close-up.

"It’s going to be the centre of an incredible action sequence in the movie. James Bond is known for driving amazing cars and this one won’t disappoint either. It’s going to have all the high-tech gadgets."

The latest James Bond movie, which has the working title Shatterhand, will start shooting next month and is due for release in 2020.

Last year, Aston Martin provided a sneak peek of the Rapid E, which has been developed in partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering – a company that used to design and assemble batteries for Formula E cars.

The Aston Martin Rapid E will be powered by an 800-volt battery system with 65kWh capacity with a range of over 200 miles on a single charge, which according to the automaker is the highest for any electric sports car.

Founded by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford in London in 1913, Aston Martin has grown to become one of the world’s most renowned luxury car brands, and has become indelibly linked with the Bond franchise over the past 50 years.
