Ferrari has unveiled its latest supercar at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that pays homage to some of the most iconic models the Italian marquee has ever made.

Replacing the 488 GTB, the new Ferrari F8 Tributo is powered by a V8 engine and recalls legendary cars of yesteryear including  the 308 GTB and the F40 through its styling and special touches.

Describing it as “a celebration of excellence,” Ferrari says the F8 Tributo “represents the highest expression of the company’s classic two-seater berlinetta.”

Although the F8 Tributo retains a strong resemblance to its predecessor, just about every inch of the car has been revisited and updated to give it a completely fresh look.

The most notable styling change comes in its headlights and tail lamps, with the front sporting a tweaked horizontal LED headlight design which is a lot more compact than before.  This has helped Ferrari engineers to incorporate ducts into the design that sends fresh air into the wheel arches to cool the brakes.

The car’s rear, meanwhile, marks the return to the classic twin light cluster and body-coloured tail inspired by the early 8-cylinder berlinettas as per the very first in the series, the 1975 308 GTB.

The other highlight of the rear section is the new Lexan rear screen, which is a modern reinterpretation of the most distinctive design element of the Ferrari F40. The spoiler is integrated into the design and wraps around the tail lights, giving the rear a clean look.

The redesign has also helped the F8 Tributo become 10 per cent more aerodynamically efficient than the model it replaces.

The cabin has also been overhauled, with every element of the dash, door panels, and tunnel completely redesigned. There’s the latest generation HMI (Human Machine Interface), round air vents, and an 8.5” passenger touchscreen display.

The 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque - identical figures to that of the special edition 488 Pista launched in 2018.  

Combined with a reduced weight of 88 pounds compared with the outgoing 488 GTB, the Ferrari F8 Tributo achieves a 0-62mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 211mph.

Pricing and availability are to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, which runs until 17 March.
