World renowned London diamond company Graff Diamonds is now in possession of what is said to be the world’s largest emerald cut diamond.

First discovered in Lucara Karowe mine in Botswana in 2015, the gem weighs 302.37 carats and was created from a process of meticulous carving that took more than 18 months.

Given the moniker Lesedi La Rona, meaning “Our Light” in Tswana, it was bought by Graff Diamonds for the eye-popping price of $53 million.

Graff claim that the gem has the highest clarity and highest colour diamond that has ever been graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

“This diamond is beyond words,” says Graff Diamonds founder Laurence Graff. “All our expertise, skill and accomplishment went into crafting this incredible diamond masterpiece, which is extraordinary in every way.

“It has an exceptional cut and exceptional proportions, earning its place in history as the largest and finest of its kind in the world."

Graff Diamonds was founded in London in 1960.
