Iconic French fashion label Hermés has created a new addition for its famous Arceau watch line to mark the range’s 40th birthday.

Created in 1978 by Hermés design maestro Henri d’Origny, the original model featured asymmetrical lugs including stirrups on a steed, and Arabic slanting figures.

Paying tribute to this legendary form of watchmaking, the new commemorative model is a simple yet striking reminder of its original version, and comes in a 40mm mirror-polished steel case.

Perhaps the most unique feature is the dial, which is also steel but comes with a grainy, matte effect thanks to some fine bead blasting.

The round face comes in an anthracite shade accentuated with the blackened gold numerals, which in turn is superluminova, making the numbers shine in the dark, with the slanting posture giving it the impression of a galloping horse. The strap is made of natural Barenia calf leather and has a Swiss quartz movement.

The new Arceau watch will be available from Hermés boutiques from April this year, priced at $3,200.

Founded in Paris in 1837, Hermés has grown to become one of the world’s most famous luxury labels.
