Notes From The Editor

Week Commencing 10 August 2015

In one sense, private jets are purely utilitarian in nature, designed to get people from A to B at a speed that other modes of transport cannot match. Without that single benefit, their worth would be reduced to virtually zero.

But of course, for the kind of people that can afford such a service, utility is nothing without a touch of style and it was with both virtues in mind that Andrew Winch Designs set about creating Project Mayfair.

Inspired by the new breed of hotels in London’s well-heeled Mayfair district, the jet is billed as merging classic British elegance with an international business-club sophistication. You can read more about it in today’s newsletter.

Elsewhere this week, there’s news of the reopening of the iconic Paris Ritz hotel following a three-year revamp, a preview of the upcoming Only Watch charity auction in Geneva, and Uber’s introduction of their helicopter service in Hong Kong.

There’s also a report on the upcoming RM Sotheby’s London classic car auction, the opening of fashion brand Alexander Wangs largest flagship store, and the arrival of the Aman Resorts’ second Japan residence.

If that’s not enough, there’s also the opening of an ultra-luxury shopping mall in Thailand featuring mono-brand stores from a vast range of international luxury brands.

Enjoy our newsletter and have a great week.
