Notes From The Editor

Week Commencing 14 December 2015

The recent China Rendez-Vous yachting and lifestyle fair on the island of Hainan was an ideal opportunity to take stock of how the country’s luxury industry is evolving.

In a year that saw its economy take a huge blow following a major stock market crash, it has been a particularly interesting time to judge how it dealt with the shockwaves and how it plans to repair the damage that was caused. Our lead story in today’s newsletter attempt to do just that.

We follow it with three fascinating interviews that our team conducted while in China, each with individuals representing Italian luxury brands desperate to tap into China’s nascent demographic of luxury consumer.

The first of these is with Sarah Meucci, an Italian fashion designer specialising in intricate straw hats. During our conversation, Sarah the history behind her company and why she had been so pleased with the reception she’d received in China.

There’s also interviews with Francesco Davico, exports manager at Cantine Salvano on breaking the Chinese wine market and Francesca Migone on bringing Italian candles to China.

Elsewhere in this week’s newsletter, there’s a glut of luxury news including auction house Christie’s announcing the lavish lots set to go under the hammer at two Winter jewellery sales in New York, while supercar makers Bugatti have collaborated with one of the biggest names in yachting to design a stunning sports yacht.

If that’s not enough, there’s reports on Hublot’s unveiling of a special Bruce Lee anniversary timepiece in Hong Kong and the eagerly awaited Bentley Bentayga which has finally rolled off the production Line

Enjoy our newsletter and have a great week.
