Notes From The Editor

Week Commencing 23 March 2015

There are a handful of luxury events each year that truly stand out and capture the imagination. One such event is BaselWorld, the prestigious watch fair currently taking place in Basel, Switzerland.

With around 1,500 brands from 40 countries exhibiting at the show, it truly is manna from heaven for watch lovers, who, for seven full days, are able to immerse themselves in a veritable horological Disney World. Except, of course, that there is nothing make-believe about the stunning creations on show.

For those unable to make the trip to BaselWorld, you can find some of the key highlights from this year’s show in today’s newsletter. We hope it gives you a taste of the fun and perhaps inspires you to plan a visit to next year’s edition.

Elsewhere this week, there’s news from the Goodwood Member’s Meet, where an array of classic cars were joined by Swiss watch brand IWC to launch the Ingenieur Automatic Edition “AMG GT” timepiece, inspired by the new Mercedes sports car of the same name. were present at the event, which is now into its second year, and are delighted to report back on what was an enthralling afternoon.

There’s also a feature on one of the most exciting submersible launches of recent times, the Deepflight Super Falcon Mark II. Developed by Graham Hawkes of DeepFlight, the 17-foot, two-person submersible runs entirely on electricity, can dive to depths of over 100 metres and has a cruising speed of 2-6 knots.

In further cars news, there’s a report from the Amelia Island auction that took place recently in Florida and saw an impressive $26.9 million in sales, while the all-new Jaguar XF is set to feature in a dramatic high wire stunt in London.

We also bring you news from Graff Diamonds who have created an innovative watch that converts into a stunning diamond ring, while Swiss watch brad Breguet have added a new timepiece to its popular ‘Tradition’ Collection.

That’s all for now, which leaves me to say: enjoy our newsletter and have a luxurious week.
