Located on ‘The Green Island’ of Sao Miguel, the largest and most populated in the Azores, Marina de Ponta Delgado offers a rich variety of attractions. It’s cosmopolitan town of Ponta Delgada (c. 150, 000 inhabitants) boasts a blend of contemporary amenities with an historic Portuguese flavour. Beyond the town the Island also enjoys a diverse scenery with beautiful lakes, volcanic craters and peaks, sandy beaches, lush foliage, hot springs and traditional villages. The Island is known for it’s award winning Terra Nostra Park and wonderful golf courses and offers activities from whale watching and swimming with dolphins to bird watching and jeep safaris.

Ponta Delgada’s Marina has recently benefited from a 50 million Euro investment as part of the Government of Azore’s ‘Gateway of the Sea’ project. Aimed at providing both locals and visitors with an enhanced range of commercial and cultural opportunities the development has increased the marina’s berthing capacity by four and made the marina into an expanding port of call for cruise ships and superyachts. The port now boasts a liner terminal with an inter-Island ferry, a 5300m² commercial zone which includes restaurants, a bank, travel agency, car rental and other amenities. Despite this massive development and the increased interest in the port by liner operators and superyacht captains Marina de Ponta Delgada still holds the European Blue Flag, for outstanding environmental commitments, which it was awarded in 1999.
