A Luxury Yachting Guide

Shelter Island Marina is located in San Diego, the eighth largest city in the United States and the birthplace of modern-day California.  San Diego is the historic home of the Kumeyaay Native Americans whose first inhabited the area as far back as 10,000 years ago.  In 1542 the Europeans arrived to the West Coast, and San Diego was claimed by Spain in 1542.  It was briefly made part of Mexico in 1821 before conceding to the United States at the end of the Mexico-American War in 1850.

The city has a number of museums, including the San Diego Museum of Art, Natural History Museum and the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum, as well as many events and festivals such as the Farmers Insurance Open Gold tournament, the San Diego Black Film Festival and the Street Scene Music Festival.

San Diego has a multitude of restaurants serving international cuisines from seafood, Italian, Spanish and French, and has a lively energetic atmosphere.  Every January visitors to the area can witness the mass migration of grey whales that pass by the city on their journey between the Arctic Sea and Baja in Mexico.

For those looking to explore the area, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Salt Lake Cityare just a short hop away by plane or car journey.

Famous people to have lived here include Adam Lambert the runner up in American Idol, Mitt Romney the politician and the actress Michelle Williams.
