Editors Comments: Week Ending 15/12/2011

News which reflected the state of the economy was released this week after Blohm + Voss, one of the most renowned shipyards in the world, announced their acquisition by STAR Capital Partners; however, with the close of 2011 drawing in fast, is the Superyacht Industry restructuring to meet the New Year?

Camper & Nicholsons forged a new business ethic this year after bringing in Eric de Saintdo as their new CEO in June, all whilst acting as the Managing Director of the Rodriguez Group. Shortly after this, Edmiston announced the appointment of Mark Cornell as their new CEO.

The Azimut-Benetti Group also recently reported a new organisational restructure after the company’s commercial and manufacturing operations took another step forward to focus on their Business Line Yachts.

These major changes to the Superyacht Industry, alongside a number of others, have all lead to the month’s biggest news, the acquisition of Blohm + Voss by STAR Capital Partners.

All industry movements throughout the year have come in response to a rapidly changing economic environment. The high times of 2008 are well behind us, so as the industry works harder to bring life back to the industry and adapt to the changing climate, more and more organizational restructures are being announced.

A distinct axis of recovery will surely emerge through evolution and restructure, a different way of thinking; however, with a year of exciting events set to against the backdrop of an uncertain period for the entire world, 2012 is assured to provide an exciting twelve months.
