Notes From The Editor

Editor's Note: 2018's Most Read Stories

The days between Christmas and New Year are best spent losing track of time and reminiscing on the year gone by. At Superyachts.com we’re doing the same by bringing you our final newsletter of the year, filled with our most read stories from the past 12 months. So sit back, relax and read some of the most interesting moments from 2018.

Kicking off our list is Part 1 of Women in Design; part of a series that has particularly captured the attention our audience in the past few months. In this part of the Women in Yachting series, Anna Solomon speaks to female yacht designers Laura Pomponi, Adriana Monk, Sabrina Monteleone-Øeino and Daniela Zulli. They shed light on what makes them tick as designers, and how being underrepresented in the sector has affected their careers…

Another topic that has proven popular this year with our readers is that of environmental consideration. In Catriona Cherrie’s latest article, A Conversation on Conservation we take a look in retrospect at ocean conservation efforts in 2018 and anticipate the future of conservation in the superyacht industry.

Of course, talk of conservation often leads to talk of increasing (or revived) interest in the sailing sector. Earlier this year Editor Christina Tsangaris had the pleasure of sitting down with Helen Clark, Patron of Emirates Team, New Zealand and the country’s ex-Prime Minister to discuss the home of the 2021 America’s Cup: Auckland, where the sailing landscape is becoming increasingly progressive in more ways than one.

Elsewhere, we’ve spent the past year travelling the world to bring you the latest from the global yacht shows that have once again exceeded expectations with bigger fleets, more exhibitors and exciting new additions. The Monaco Yacht Show Round Up story is always one of our most read, with our Round Up Video allowing the industry to reflect once more on a fantastic week. Those who attended the American Showcase, FLIBS, can also remind themselves of the show’s adrenalin with our Round Up Video here.

While we also look back on some other great moments which include our exploration of Hemisphere; the charter giant and an interview with owner J.R Ridinger on Utopia IV, we hope you’ve enjoyed reading our stories throughout the yachting year just as much as we have enjoyed bringing them to you. See you in 2019 for more!
