Editor's Note: Big Builds, Big News

This week, news continued to be dominated by big builds. Whether it be in build, brokerage or design, Top 100 vessels are really having their moment…

News of three 100m+ yachts hit the headlines this week, from three European shipbuilding heavyweights. Hull 1009, the 95m vessel currently under construction at Feadship, was this week seen leaving Feadship’s construction yard to be transported to a facility in Makkum, where she will be completed for her predicted 2021 delivery.

Breaking the 100m barrier, the latest mammoth Oceanco project, a 109m custom yacht, has become the first vessel to enter the shipyard’s new construction facilities in Zwijndrecht. In typical Oceanco fashion, details of the 109 metre project are being kept highly confidential, for now.

Imperial were hot on Oceanco’s heels for Top 100 news, announcing their appointment as Exclusive Central Agent for the sale of this 106m Lurssen superyacht Amadea. George Bains reflects on the ripples made when a yacht of Amadea’s stature enters the market.

Lurssen yacht Valerie also made headlines, as Forbes published a new video providing an enigmatic glimpse into the world of this Top 100 superyacht. Central Agent IYC have also announced that they will be bringing the 85.10m to this year’s MYS for potential buyers to view in the flesh.

Not to be left out, Heesen also makes it into the mix this week. We had the pleasure of speaking to Heesen Yachts’ Director of Operations, Rick van de Wetering, who sheds light on the structure and processes make Heesen a one-stop-shop able to deliver high-quality yachts on short timescales.

They might not be Top 100, but they are certainly show-stopping - we take a look at the biggest yachts in attendance at Cannes Yachting Festival, which will be kicking off next Tuesday 10 September and running until Sunday 15. Also in European events, Porto Cervo in Sardinia this week played host to the 30th Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, attracting over 50 yachts to the Italian island.

Finally, a mere ocean away, the importance of the North American market for brokerage firms is burgeoning, reflected in huge industry moves such as Fraser Yachts' return to US ownership. Jenna Mehdi speaks to Mark Elkington, CEO and Director of Multihull Solutions, to glean a better insight into the services they provide.
