Editor's Note: Europe Dominates

From the launch of 77m explorers bound for the furthest-flung corners of the globe, to stunning cruises across the continent, this week saw build and charter news flooding in from all corners of Europe...

The story that grabbed the attention of the industry was the launch of Damen’s 77m SeaXplorer, La Datcha. A very public owner addressed attendees of the launch in Galati about his grand travel ambitions aboard his new yacht, which is due to be delivered in September 2020, and will make her public debut at Monaco Yacht Show.

Transferring the spotlight from The Netherlands to Spain, our team had the pleasure of touring M/Y Solo in Marina Port Vell, where the world’s most impressive charter yachts which line the docks. We embark, invited into the spaces of Tankoa’s latest delivery.

Next up, we had the opportunity to speak with new COO of Balk Shipyard Melvin Van Campenhout, alongside long standing CEO Daan Balk. In an eye-opening discussion, the two tell us all about the shifting sands of the build and refit industry, and what Balk are doing to stay ahead of the curve.

Finally, summer seems as though it is here to stay, and if you’re stuck for inspiration as to where to live out your summer dreams, look no further than our Guide to Yachting in Greece. In a two-part exclusive, we speak with A1 Yacht Trade Consortium Company Director Rosemary Pavlatou, who explains why A1’s comprehensive services make the quintessential Mediterranean experience seamless.

Next, we turn our attention to the sunny little principality of Monaco. Thompson, Westwood and White Yachts have a new addition to their standout fleet: S/Y Vay is the perfect specimen for a sea-loving owner, and her manageable size and sailing pedigree makes her a yacht of classic charm. Not to be outdone, Italy also came to the fore this week with Perini Navi introducing their brand new line launch. The eminently cool Heritage Fleet, which comes in three sizes - 55, 65 and 75m - embodies the bluewater ideal that Perini Navi are known for in their sailing yachts whilst distinctly modernizing it.

Another European launch, Monte Carlo Yachts have introduced MCY 66 to the market as part of the implementation of their new vision. The latest in a spate of achievements to come out of the shipyard, the brand new boat embodies the rejuvenated direction of the brand.

We wish all of our readers a fantastic week - with Europe dominating build and charter, it is clear that the summer season is nearly here!
