2025’s Most Exciting Yachting Headlines

By Sophia Spanton

2025 delivered seismic shifts in superyacht design, delivery and dealmaking, with shipyards pushing boundaries from colossal explorers to radical concepts. From record sales to towering sloops and family-focused icons, the year redefined what luxury on water can achieve.

Lürssen’s 134m DEEP BLUE Marks 150 Years of Excellence
Lürssen celebrated its 150th anniversary with the June 2025 launch of the 134-metre DEEP BLUE, the shipyard’s largest delivery of the year and a top-25 yacht globally by length. Long shrouded in secrecy, her unveiling revealed striking blue-hued overhangs, five expansive decks dedicated to lifestyle and leisure, dual swimming pools, and a heli-capable bow.

'Clients choose us for our engineering excellence, our ability to think outside the box, and our determination to fulfil their wishes - no matter how unreachable they may seem,' said CEO Peter Lürssen.

ETHEREA: Feadship’s Vision for the Next Generation Explorer
Feadship turned heads with ETHEREA, a concept yacht that reimagines the modern explorer as an ethereal fusion of nature and technology. Building on the forward-thinking legacy established by BREAKTHROUGH and its hydrogen milestone, ETHEREA explores a softer, more elemental design language.

Inspired by earth, air, fire and water, her fluid forms, integrated hybrid propulsion and seamless connection to the environment suggest a future where yachts feel less imposed upon the sea and more part of it.

Conceived as a genuine blueprint rather than an abstract exercise, ETHEREA reinforces Feadship’s strength in translating conceptual thinking into owner-led reality, a vision designed to be commissioned, not just admired.

Oceanco’s 130m Project Y727: A Record-Breaking Contract
Oceanco secured one of 2025’s defining moments at the Monaco Yacht Show with the signing of Project Y727, the Dutch yard’s largest-ever commission at 130 metres. Designed to combine true explorer capability with expansive, luxurious volumes, the project underscores growing owner appetite for scale paired with purpose.

'Leviathan represents a new philosophy of yachting - one that places greater purpose at the heart of design, ownership and operations,' said Deniz de Koningh, Project Director.

The contract followed a standout year for the yard, marked by the delivery of two 111m superyachts, LEVIATHAN (Project Y722) and DreAMBoat (Project Y726). Both yachts placed people at the heart of the design brief, prioritising generous social spaces, improved crew flow and progressive onboard living.

As the year culminated in Monaco, momentum continued. 'We are just making sure that the yachts we’re building are future-proof,' added Paris Baloumis, Group Marketing Manager. Together, these milestones cemented Oceanco’s position at the forefront of human-centric megayacht design.

SKY: World’s Tallest Sloop Secures Build Contract
SKY, the world’s tallest sloop at over 90 metres, officially moved from concept to construction in 2025 with a confirmed build contract. Defined by her unprecedented mast height and advanced carbon wing rig, the sailing yacht promises exceptional performance without sacrificing comfort or luxury.

With the project now greenlit, SKY pushes sailing yachts firmly into gigayacht territory, challenging long-held assumptions and placing wind propulsion back at the centre of future-forward thinking.

Edmiston's Record-Breaking Q1 with €1.07 Billion in Superyacht Sales
Edmiston delivered one of 2025’s most striking market moments, recording €1.07 billion in superyacht sales in Q1 alone; a figure that immediately set the tone for the year ahead. The surge underscored a market moving with speed and conviction, as high-net-worth buyers translated intent into action.

Supported by the brokerage’s Top 100 alignment and real-time market intelligence, Edmiston captured the rhythm of multibillionaire demand at scale. The result was a year defined not by speculation, but by momentum, where deals kept pace with design and delivery.

Looking Ahead:
With Project Y727 progressing, ETHEREA-inspired commissions gaining traction, and Lürssen carrying its anniversary momentum forward, 2026 is poised to be a year of even greater ambition: where scale, sustainability and owner purpose increasingly converge.
