A Milestone Moment for Port Denia: Rigging of S/Y PARSIFAL III

By Frances Flannagan

Following a significant expansion in 2023, Port Denia was challenged with the rigging of the iconic sailing yacht PARSIFAL III. The operation was completed to an exceptional standard in a very short timeframe, made possible by the yard’s spectacular facilities and its team’s remarkable expertise.

Port Denia is widely regarded as the ultimate superyacht hub on the east coast of Spain, located in the heart of Denia, just 45 miles from Ibiza and one hour from both Alicante and Valencia airports. It offers both shipyard and marina facilities (30 - 130m berths), making it the ideal choice for anyone looking for a quality refit location or winter berthing solution.

In addition to its two 80m haulout slipways for yachts up to 1250 GT, the yard has recently expanded with a new dry dock area which included the purchase of a 620-tonne travel lift. This has attracted more yachts to Port Denia, subsequently employing more people and subcontractors, with the success of this expansion seen in a recent refit of Rafael Nadal’s iconic catamaran motor yacht GREAT WHITE.

In February 2024, Port Denia was commissioned with another operation on a highly recognisable vessel: sailing yacht PARSIFAL III, which has appeared on four series of the hit reality show Below Deck Sailing Yacht. The project saw the removal of her masts, her main mast being a staggering 63m high, and Port Denia was tasked with rigging this very large sailing superyacht.

An impressive 100m crane was employed for this project, which was executed in a very short amount of time, with the team at Port Denia completing the works successfully and to an extremely high standard. The rigging was managed by Italian company DRigging, whilst the entire Port Denia team played a pivotal role in the operation, offering all of the necessary support.

Daniele Raddavero, Founder of DRigging, commented: ‘I just want to say thanks to the yacht managers and all the guys working on the field here, because they gave us a fantastic support and they supplied us with whatever we asked for, [and we have now] hit a fantastic result in a very short timeframe.’

Alongside Port Denia’s state-of-the-art facilities and highly qualified team, the timely nature of this operation was also thanks to ideal weather conditions. As well as being a top location accessibility-wise, Denia also exists within a microclimate, which positively assists in refit operations due to excellent temperatures, clear skies, and calm seas.

Captain Howard, Captain of PARSIFAL III, shared some positive words on Port Denia: ‘We are the guinea pig here for big refits. They’ve just expanded the yard space, which is giving the opportunity to bring big projects here to Denia Shipyard. So we’re happy with working with everybody here and having a big project come together like this.’

The successful completion of the rigging of this large sailing superyacht highlights Port Denia’s expanded capabilities, its exceptional facilities and its efficient and experienced team. Now having two additional famous yachts in its portfolio, the shipyard’s expertise is proudly showcased to the industry, making it the ideal refit yard for Captains, superyacht Owners and management companies from all over the globe.
