A New Benchmark for Amels with Launch of 120m Project Tanzanite
Amels has now launched Project Tanzanite, a 120-metre full custom superyacht that now stands as the largest motor yacht ever built in the Netherlands. At 6,083 gross tonnes, it also becomes the largest vessel in the Amels fleet.
The steel hull was originally launched at Damen Yachting’s Galati facility in Romania and arrived in Vlissingen in June 2023. Following its formal launch, the yacht is now in the final outfitting stage at the Amels shipyard, with delivery expected in 2026. Over the next year, more than 1,000 craftspeople will contribute to the finishing process, drawn from both the Damen team and a wide network of global suppliers.
Exterior design is by Espen Øino, who brings a sharp, sculptural profile to the vessel, his latest in a growing portfolio with Amels. The interior, kept confidential at the client’s request, is by Zuretti Design. Early renderings hint at a warm, textural palette featuring wood, marble, and curved lines.
Naval architecture was completed in-house by Damen Yachting, with Deeside Maritime representing the client throughout. The yacht is powered by diesel-electric engines and Azipod propulsion, chosen for efficiency and reduced onboard noise and vibration.
While many details remain under wraps, Project Tanzanite is a clear statement of scale, technical capability, and design precision, marking a step forward not just for Amels, but for the Dutch yacht industry as a whole.
"The launch marks a key milestone for this full custom project as the yacht will now enter the next stage of the build process at the Amels main shipyard facilities in Vlissingen City."
