A New Generation: First Amels 60 Unveiled

Featuring a timeless exterior by renowned designer Espen Øino, Amels’ newest Limited Edition yacht, 60m Amels 6001, was unveiled to the public for the first time today, ahead of her official launch and delivery later this spring. Built for a repeat Amels owner, Amels 6001 is the first of five yachts within the Amels 60 Limited Edition range currently under construction. 

Presented to the world via live stream, Damen slowly but surely unveiled the first of its latest Amels Limited Edition designs at its Vlissingen shipyard. Initially held in suspense, the online audience were shown multiple sneak preview shots of Amels 6001’s metallic pebble grey hull before she made her impressive debut outside, gradually revealing her matterhorn white and super jet black superstructure. 

Not only showcasing her sleek, custom-coloured exterior and multiple stretching windows, drones also revealed the grand sun deck of the first Amels 60 from above, which measures an impressive 162 square metres and 27m in length. The under-construction swim platform was also revealed, in addition to the folding owner's suite balcony. 

Exterior designer Espen Øino, commented on the design process of his first Amels Limited Editions project: ‘The Amels 60 is the first Limited Editions design we are involved with and it has been a fascinating journey thus far. The design process is somewhat different, as one is designing not for an individual client but rather for a group of potential clients, so a proper market research as to what this target group is looking for is fundamental for the success of the project as a whole. Considering that five Amels 60s have already been sold prior to launching the first vessel, this is a testimony to Amels and their in depth research from which the design found its inspiration. As a design studio, having worked mostly with custom-designed yachts, we are very enthusiastic and proud to be part of this very exciting programme.”

Amels 6001’s polished grey hull is not the only notable feature of the new build. The 60m vessel is home to unique hybrid power and propulsion technology, ensuring highly efficient travel as well as reduced emissions, noise and vibrations. Her sustainable approach continues inside, boasting contemporary and environmentally friendly Winch Design and Damen Yachting interiors, that feature neutral tones combined with natural woods, to create a calm and harmonious layout throughout her generous interior volume of 830 GT.

Since her arrival in Vlissingen in July last year, Amels 6001’s hull has been transformed into a worthy icon for the Amels 60 Limited Editions. Joppe Osté, the Amels 60 Project Manager, reflected on her debut: ‘Milestone moments like these are always special for every project but it’s no surprise that this one carries an extra element of pride and excitement for the entire team at Damen Yachting. This is the first ever Amels 60 to emerge from the build shed, the first of a new Amels Limited Editions series and the first of more to come! She is a beautiful yacht and a wonderful first impression of the new Amels design. Her metallic hull is remarkable and it’s amazing to see how it works with the design, especially now that she is out in the daylight.  It’s not just the exceptional colour, it’s the way it changes with the light and angle.’

Accommodating 12 guests and 13 crew, this new Limited Edition design is the Dutch shipyard's take on the ‘shape of the future', and Amels 6001 is certainly already a stellar example of this.
