‘A Precedent for Learning’: 111m Oceanco Y722 Nears Completion

By George Bains

Another future icon is nearing completion at Oceanco as 111-metre superyacht Y722 was transported from the shipyard’s first-phase construction facilities in Zwijndrecht to the outfitting facilities in Alblasserdam. This exciting project ventures beyond the luxury experience to provide a platform for important scientific research.

Y722 will remain in Alblasserdam to complete the final stages of construction leading up to her sea trials and commissioning in 2025. Her exceptional exterior profile, penned by the renowned Espen Øino International, was revealed. The superyacht’s interiors have been penned by Mark Berryman Design.

Beyond guests enjoyment on the water, Y722 represents the positive applications of superyachts to support important initiatives. The superyacht will join a select fleet of privately-owned vessels engaged in scientific research, discovery and exploration.

“At Oceanco, we thrive on working with visionary clients and their teams to build yachts that challenge the status quo and look to the future for inspiration,” comments Marcel Onkenhout, CEO of Oceanco. “It is very rewarding to be able to collaborate with an owner and their team in such a positive and involved way. From her unique layout and philanthropic operations to her forward-thinking, future-proofed technical capabilities, Y722 is a trailblazer in every aspect.”

The construction has been the result of close collaboration between Oceanco, YTMC and Y.CO, with the important contributions of dozens of suppliers, subcontractors, and comakers along with the operational crews.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Oceanco, YTMC, and the Fleet Operational Team on the development of such a ground-breaking yacht,” says Charlie Birkett, CEO and Co-Founder of Y.CO. “This is a project with vast scope and vital ambition, and our Coordination, Brokerage, Technical, and Management Teams are collaborating closely with the Fleet Crew and look forward to delivering such an exciting project which, we hope will become a precedent for learning, equality, and sustainability in our industry.”

Y722 epitomises the best of what superyachts can provides, embracing innovative technologies as well as some radical layout changes which veer away from the perception of a “traditional” yacht.

Efficiency and the environment have been central concerns during the design process, with the yacht powered by a diesel electric power plant and large battery energy storage system also fitted. This will ensure smooth engine operation while also allowing for periods of emission-free silent running.

Y722 has also been crafted to maximise onboard comfort for the Owner and guests, with heavily reduced noise and vibration owing to meticulous engineering of her structure, insulation, equipment and system integration.

The unconventional layout supports the yacht’s commitment to collective learning, with her living spaces devised to create synergy between al; those on board and encourage mutual cultivation of ideas and passions. Crew wellbeing has also been paramount, with enhanced crew accommodation as well as crew gyms and wellness areas.

We look forward to following updates from the final stages of Y722’s construction, leading up to her scheduled delivery in 2025.
