Alpha Marine Signs Contract for New 47m Hybrid

By Emily Dawkins

Greek design studio and naval architects, Alpha Marine Ltd, has announced that it has signed the contract for a 47m diesel-electric hybrid superyacht. Aptly named, ‘The First’, the new vessel will be constructed in Greece, with her keel laying planned to begin later in 2022. She will be branded under the new superyacht firm, ProMarine Yachts.

Commissioned by an experienced owner, the first hull within the new semi-custom series will become one of the few yachts of her size to be equipped with a cutting-edge hybrid system and Azimuth thrusters.

‘The First’ will feature exterior design by Alpha Marine, who has created a curvaceous profile with smooth lines and carefully carved angles. Her silhouette is set to be timeless: characterised by practical and high-quality elegant finishes.

Yacht Designer & Naval Architect, Aristotelis Betsis, commented on the process of designing her exterior: ‘The owner had in mind what he liked and what he didn’t, but the yacht should not only satisfy the owner’s taste. She has also to satisfy the taste of a greater audience, as this yacht comes first in the owner’s new venture. A long concept realisation process was followed until we reached the final design. The result is a super elegant modern-classic yacht with all the dynamism a younger audience would look for.’

Notably, the Greek design studio is also responsible for the naval architecture of ‘The First’, meticulously developing a slender, under 500GT hull that offers not only low resistance and spectacular seakeeping characteristics, but also ample volume for an array of amenities and facilities onboard. She has also been designed, and will be built to, the highest RINA classifications.

‘We created a new hull from scratch which could accommodate the yacht’s requirements in the best possible way,’ expanded Thomas Gkouliouras, Technical Director and Naval Architect at Alpha Marine Ltd, ‘but our task does not end there. The structural design has been simple enough to ease the building process and sophisticated enough to reduce the weight and increase the strength of the yacht.’

Offering a variety of internal configurations, including the option for accommodating 10 guests across five cabins, or 12 across six, the new hybrid series has been created to offer the ultimate onboard experience. Designed for living at sea long-term, or chartering short-term, ‘The First’ boasts incredible flexibility through a wide range of water toys, ample storage facilities, a separate crew circulation as well as comfortable accommodation and living areas for both scenarios.

Nikos Dafnias, Founder & CEO of Alpha Marine Ltd, stated: ‘This yacht has been a dream to come true for the owner for many years. It took numerous long meetings in order to be able to compile a sufficient briefing and work out solutions to conclude with a project winning result. I am happy to say that our team’s ethos, experience and talent can be represented by the final result.’

We would like to congratulate Alpha Marine on this exciting news and we are looking forward to seeing 'The First' begin construction very soon.
