Amels 180 GRACE Delivered after Undergoing Refit

By Freya Cottrell

Following a four-month refit project, Amels and Damen Yachting have announced the delivery of their 52.3 metre motor yacht GRACE. Originally built in the Netherlands at the Damen Yachting Vlissingen City shipyard, Grace returned to the same shipyard in April of this year for a modernising refit.

Delivered in 2009, GRACE is part of the successful Amels 180 Limited Editions designs. Originally starting as the Amels 171 design series, Amels have delivered 25 yachts over a period of 15 years.

In an attempt to minimise the operational downtime of the superyacht and to make sure she was in perfect condition for the upcoming season, the shipyard worked tirelessly to ensure the refit was completed in a relatively short space of time.

Similarly to Amels 89 metre superyacht HERE COMES THE SUN, which was just launched after a lengthy year-long refit, the exterior steel hull of GRACE has also benefited from a complete respray. Originally designed by multi award-winning yacht designer Tim Heywood, who has lent his design talents to a plethora of Amels superyachts, the respray has given the 11-year old Amels Limited Edition a revitalising lift after many years on the water.

Speaking to Superyachts.com in 2018, Tim Heywood defined the key essence of a classic yacht as “the strong display of grace and elegance that comes from a controlling hand that understands proportion and function in equal measure”. The relationship between elegance and control is obvious in the design of GRACE, from the bold vertical and horizontal lines that feature prominently in her exterior design to the feminine curves of the aluminium superstructure and the stern of the vessel. She is the epitome of GRACE, it is no wonder she was renamed such after previously being dubbed UNITY and ADDICTION.

Her one off custom interior, consisting of six guest cabins - one master, three double and two twin suites - plus housing for up to 13 crew, was originally designed by Nuvolari and Lenard. During the refit the interior has undergone modifications but still retains the sleek, bright and unique essence that anyone lucky enough to step aboard GRACE has come to know.

Despite the time limits on the project, Damen Yachting Sales Manager Michel Coens was delighted to have accomplished so much during the refit works. He comments that GRACE was well remembered from the time of her original build at the Damen Yachting Vlissingen City shipyard in 2009. Michel Coens says: “It has been an honour to have GRACE back in the shipyard - we wish the Owner and her crew the very best for a great season ahead”.
