Amels Launches First Superyacht of 2021

Amels has celebrated its first launch of the year as the first Amels 200 hit the water at Damen Yachting’s facility in the Netherlands.

After her sale was announced at the end of 2019, construction rapidly commenced on the first hull of the Amels 200 Limited Editions range. Now, following her launch, the 60m superyacht is ready to undergo final outfitting and commissioning ahead of her delivery this summer.

The Amels 200 is an evolution of the Amels 188, and bears the characteristic hallmark of exterior designer Tim Heywood. With interior design by Bath-based studio Reymond Langton, she is a feat of British design talent inside and out.

Tim Heywood sheds light on the new launch’s distinctive exterior styling: ‘There are many features of this design that bring a smile to my face. The many flying buttresses, the complex winding surfaces, the upturned deck ends, the integrated life rafts, the sculptural mast and the complex stern, all form a harmonious design that sits securely in her environment, of which I am extremely proud. I believe her delicate, fluid lines will prove to be timeless and she will still look as attractive in 50 years’ time, as she does now.’

Drawing on the proven platform of her predecessor, the Amels 200 shares the high volume interior, hybrid electrical propulsion, four-deck elevator and air-conditioned gym on Sun Deck of the Amels 188. She is distinguished however by larger aft decks and swim platform as well as full-height windows in the luxurious Owners Suite.

‘The additional length invested into this design has only increased her elegance and sophisticated appearance, as well as elevating the functionality of her interior, which is illuminated by enlarged windows,’ Tim Heywood explains. ‘The many winding surfaces allow sunlight and reflections to add to her magic, only possible by the sculptural forms and high gloss finish, achieved by her builders, who have invested so much time and effort into achieving perfection. The flowing lines of her multifaceted exterior are exactly as I imagined and the difficulties of her complex forms have been crafted with enormous care and talent.’

Burgess represented the Owner in the sale, marking the latest success in a longstanding collaboration between two yachting greats.
