Antigua Comes Alive Beyond the Marina at The Sunset Showdown
Before the opening lines were cast at this year’s Antigua Charter Yacht Show, Superyachts.com set the tone with a night that brought the island’s energy to the fore. On Wednesday, 3 December, Catherine’s Café on Pigeon Point Beach played host to the Superyachts.com Sunset Showdown, a crew party designed to showcase the best of Antigua’s lifestyle through friendly competition, local flavour, and a famously golden sunset.
As the sun dipped over English Harbour, crews from seven superyachts: ST DAVID, ASANI, AMOR A VIDA, ADVENTURE, VALINOR, KING BABY, KING OF FUN, all gathered for an evening of light‑hearted rivalry and island celebration. With two yachts fielding extra‑large teams, the Amor a Vida A and B and Adventure A and B squads brought the final total to nine competing teams, all vying for the top spot.
From tug‑of‑war battles to beach games and barefoot dancing in the sand, the event was all about showcasing Antigua’s off‑duty appeal, where crew could experience the island exactly as their charter guests do. The atmosphere sparked with friendly competition and island energy, as crews cheered each other on against the sunset backdrop of Pigeon Point.
When the dust settled, the results were in:
🥇 1st Place: ASANI: Taking home a double prize of a luxury afternoon at The Hut, Little Jumby, and an off‑road buggy adventure; two experiences chosen to highlight Antigua’s blend of relaxation and adrenaline.
🥈 2nd Place: ST DAVID: Securing a close second, earning a day at The Hut for the full crew.
🥉 3rd Place: ADVENTURE: Rounding out the top three with a celebratory magnum of Whispering Angel courtesy of Onshore Cellars.
Reflecting on the evening, Joshua Martin, Chief Officer of ST DAVID, said:
'We had a brilliant time at the Sunset Showdown! It was lovely to meet other crews and other people connected to the yachting world. We had a great time with all of the games and laughs with the referees. Thank you, Superyachts.com, for organising it, we’re already looking forward to next year!'
By blending camaraderie with cultural discovery, the Sunset Showdown offered more than just an ice‑breaker before showtime; it was a live endorsement of what makes Antigua truly special. From barefoot luxury to adventure beyond the marina, the evening gave crew first‑hand insight into the island’s charter potential and left no doubt that Antigua is ready to shine all season long.
"We had a great time with all of the games and laughs with the referees."
