By George Bains

The first episode of the Australia InDepth Documentary Series is set to launch soon on Superyachts.com. Following milestone new charter legislation passed in December 2019, the Series delves into the astonishing range of experiences available for superyachts Down Under…

Series 1 of the Australia InDepth documentary, ‘An Infinite Charter Destination’, focuses on the diverse cruising experiences in Australia and the surrounding South Pacific region. The first episode provides a holistic overview of the new charter possibilities in the country, exploring an all-year-round cruising destination.

Take a journey through the captivating locations of the Kimberley, the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney, Melbourne, and Tasmania onboard luxury superyachts.

With the insight of leading charter brokers, agents, marinas, and tourism experts, the documentary explores the enticing possibilities for superyachts in Australia, sampling some of the unique experiences that can be incorporated into a charter itinerary.

“Exploration, we want to bring that back into yachting,” says Joachim Howard, Managing Director of Ocean Alliance. With diverse experiences from city harbours to reef escapades and remote wilderness, Australia offers a perpetual superyacht playground.

The passing of new charter legislation in December 2019 brought Australia in line with many of the other yachting destinations in the Asia Pacific region. “We have been preparing for the growth of the industry,” says Superyacht Australia CEO, David Good. “We have been on the precipice of a huge explosion of yachts coming here to this part of the world.”

The voyage to Australia is certain laced with incentives for superyachts. “Australia is a year-round cruising destination,” explains Phillipa Harrison, Managing Director of Tourism Australia. “In the Southern Hemisphere winter, it’s all about the north. You can sail in the northeast, which is the Great Barrier Reef - one of the natural wonders of the world. On the northwest there is the Kimberley, which is a much more remote experience. In fact, a lot of the Kimberley is inaccessible by road, so going there on a yacht is the best way to get there.

“And in the summer months the southern states are there. So, there is Sydney Harbour, but also emerging destinations like Tasmania which offer great on-land and on-sea experiences.”

Series 1 will be released throughout the year, with each episode highlighting a unique aspect of the Australian cruising experience. Episode 2 will look at the spectacular reef experiences throughout Australia, visiting the famed Great Barrier Reef as well as the adventurous reef destinations in Western Australia.

A second documentary series, covering the wealth of superyacht infrastructure and expertise in Australia, will be released concurrently on Superyachts.com. From the design and build of award-winning superyachts, to major infrastructure developments across the country, Australia has carved out a reputation for innovation. For visiting superyachts, all the facilities and expert services are on-hand to ensure they can extend their stay in the region and make the most of the thrilling cruising grounds.
