BLACK PEARL: The World's Most Iconic Sailing Yacht Just Let Everyone In

By Sophia Spanton

BLACK PEARL has never done anything quietly. The 106.7 metre Oceanco sailing masterpiece that redefined what a sailing yacht could be has, for the first time in her history, opened every deck, every interior space and the very heart of her sailing systems to unrestricted public view. The release of a complete walkthrough video, produced by Ocean Air Media's Jared Watney aboard with full access granted by Captain Chris Gartner, marks a genuinely rare moment in superyacht history.

BLACK PEARL is not a yacht that happens to have sails. She was conceived around a singular, revolutionary philosophy: to sail at an unprecedented scale, efficiently, elegantly and powerfully. Her three DynaRig carbon masts rise nearly 70 metres above the waterline, deploying almost 3,000 square metres of sail in under eight minutes. During a recent Atlantic crossing from Tenerife to Antigua, she completed the voyage in under ten days on just 16,000 litres of fuel, a figure that makes the fuel consumption of comparable motor yachts look almost embarrassing.

Captain Chris Gartner, a 34 year sailing veteran whose career includes time aboard both MALTESE FALCON and KORU, leads the walkthrough deck by deck. What he reveals is a yacht that refuses to choose between engineering and artistry. The main salon offers 2.5 metre ceiling heights and 100 metre sightlines. The sundeck carries the largest exterior cinema screen ever installed on a yacht. Below, a wellness suite encompasses a hammam, sauna, massage room and gym. On deck, vast foredeck spaces transform into sunset lounges while underway. The beach club converts into a night lounge after dark. Every space has been considered for participation as much as relaxation.

That word, participation, matters here. Guests aboard BLACK PEARL are actively encouraged to take the helm, engage with sail operations and experience true wind powered navigation. For a yacht of 3,000 GT accommodating 12 guests in seven cabins with a crew of 27, the emphasis on genuine sailing engagement is a meaningful distinction in a charter market where passive luxury is the default.

Anna Granlund, Head of Charter Management Monaco at IYC, commented: 'We are incredibly proud and honoured to give you an unprecedented look inside one of the most extraordinary sailing yachts ever built, representing the pinnacle of modern sailing design and engineering. Her scale, innovation, and sheer presence set her apart from anything else on the water.'

The walkthrough itself represents something beyond clever marketing. No one has previously been granted this level of official, unrestricted access to BLACK PEARL. The decision to open her fully, transparently and without restriction signals a new posture for a yacht that has always been spoken about but rarely seen.

Delivered by Oceanco in 2018 and shaped by a collaboration between Ken Freivokh Design, Nuvolari Lenard and Gerard P. Villate, BLACK PEARL has accumulated multiple industry awards and a reputation that precedes her into every anchorage. The question was never whether she was extraordinary. It was whether the world would ever truly get to see it.

Now it has.
