Cantiere delle Marche Unveils the Latest Evolution in Explorer Yachting: Darwin 102 Haze2

By Sophia Spanton

Cantiere delle Marche has announced the launch of Haze2, the newest Darwin 102, marking the third launch for the shipyard in just 30 days and highlighting the enduring appeal of the Darwin Class. Since its debut in 2010, the Darwin series has become a reference point for explorer yachts, uniting superyacht-level comfort with the robust capabilities required for genuine ocean travel.

The story of Haze2 began at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival, where her owner first encountered the Darwin Class. Impressed by the yacht’s substantial hull forms and the sheer volume on offer, far exceeding that of most motor yachts in this size range, he was equally drawn to the series’ generous fuel and storage capacities, which allow for true long-range cruising without compromise. This initial impression led to a close collaboration with the shipyard, during which the owner, an experienced British yachtsman, worked with Cantiere delle Marche and his broker, Andrew Bond of Fraser Yachts, to tailor every detail of his new yacht.

Haze2 is distinguished by a number of custom features, including a redesigned wheelhouse windscreen for enhanced visibility and a concealed tender crane on the Sun Deck, inspired by the shipyard’s RJ series. The yacht’s bold exterior, designed by Sergio Cutolo of Hydro Tec, is finished in a striking metallic grey hull and blue superstructure, further accentuating the Darwin Class’s adventurous spirit.

Inside, London-based design studio Lawson Robb has created an interior that is both refined and inviting. The brief called for tactile, low-gloss wood veneers, natural tones, brushed bronze, and mosaic accents, resulting in a space that feels contemporary yet timeless. The interior comfortably accommodates up to ten guests in five cabins, with space for a crew of six. Flowing lines and a carefully curated palette create a sense of calm and sophistication, while bespoke lighting and layered materials add depth and warmth.

With Haze2, Cantiere delle Marche reaffirms its reputation for building explorer yachts that are as individual as their owners, each one a testament to the shipyard’s flexible approach and commitment to quality. As the Darwin Class continues to evolve, it remains a symbol of what is possible when superyacht luxury meets true ocean-going capability
