Classic Lines, Modern Engineering: CRN Launches 70m THUNDERBALL

Behind the project is a collaboration between CRN, Dutch studio Vripack and Italian design house Nauta. Vripack was responsible for the exterior styling, preliminary naval architecture and general arrangement, while Nauta developed the interiors and outdoor living spaces, creating a yacht that balances traditional proportions with a contemporary onboard experience.

While many new-build programmes increasingly rely on established platforms, THUNDERBALL highlights the enduring appeal of fully custom construction. Every aspect of the yacht, from her layout and technical specification to her design language and onboard systems, has been shaped around a specific owner's brief.

At 70 metres with a gross tonnage of 1,100 GT, THUNDERBALL accommodates 12 guests across an owner's suite and five VIP cabins, supported by a crew of 15. The yacht spans four decks and combines long-range cruising capability with a design intended to feel timeless rather than trend-driven.

Vripack developed the exterior styling, preliminary naval architecture and general arrangement, while Nauta was responsible for the interiors and outdoor guest spaces. Together, the studios have created a yacht that draws heavily on traditional maritime proportions, pairing an elongated bow and elegant profile with contemporary detailing and seamless connections between interior and exterior spaces.

The design continuity is particularly notable. Rather than treating indoor and outdoor areas as separate environments, recurring shapes, materials and proportions create a visual flow throughout the yacht, reinforcing the sense of a single cohesive design vision.

Beyond aesthetics, THUNDERBALL also reflects the growing importance of operational efficiency within the custom yacht sector. The yacht is equipped with an Energy Storage System capable of supporting silent operation at anchor and reducing peak power demands, helping lower fuel consumption during everyday use.

Y.CO acted as the owner's representative and project management team throughout construction, overseeing technical development, supplier coordination and build supervision.

For CRN, the launch further reinforces its position within the fully bespoke segment of the market. As owners continue to seek increasingly personalised experiences at sea, projects such as THUNDERBALL demonstrate that true custom construction remains one of the industry's most compelling propositions.

With outfitting works and sea trials now underway, the yacht is expected to be delivered to her owner later this summer.
