Construction Begins on 62m Benetti FB283

By George Bains

Benetti’s latest full custom superyacht project has begun construction, with the ancient tradition of the “Coin ceremony” held in Livorno for the 62-metre FB283. The yacht features a feel hull and aluminium superstructure, with both interior and exterior design by Giorgio M. Cassetta and the hull lines drawn by Van Oossanen.

The placing of the coin and laying of the keel are part of a noble seafaring tradition, a key element of the Benetti value-added service which stems from the shipyard’s history and stature. The “Coin ceremony” dates back to ancient Roman times in which a coin is placed under the keel to bring good luck to the vessel and to its crew and passengers.

FB283, a 62-metre five-deck custom superyacht with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, became the latest Benetti yacht to be the subject of this ceremony.

To build FB283,” explains Sebastiano Fanizza, Benetti’s Chief Commercial Officer, “Benetti is making use of its great experience in the realization of custom yachts proving to be able to make the most of its know-how, winning production, and engineering processes.

“The Owner, with whom we are in direct and open communication, immediately appreciated this aspect along with Benetti’s innovation capabilities and also the Yard’s ability to give life to his requests.”

Benetti is certainly no stranger to bespoke superyacht designs which bring an owner’s dream to life. On this project, the Owner highlighted four personal requirements: speed, silent running, autonomy and fun for the family. Benetti, Van Oossanen and Giorgio M. Cassetta adhered to these requests as they collaborated on the design of the fast displacement hull and onboard spaces.

In addition to a tapering stern and long bow, FB283 is designed to guarantee high performances (with cruising speeds of around 20 knots) and at the same time sufficient autonomy to cover long distances without stopping.

FB283 boasts elegant exterior lines which, together with the modern light-filled interiors, creates a comfortable ambience for family entertainment. There is also plenty of storage space for diving equipment, tender and water toys for action and adventure on the water.

“Right from the outset we established a transparent and constructive relationship with the owner, which made it possible to define this exciting project in a wealth of detail,” says designer Giorgio M. Cassetta. “We’re very grateful for being given the freedom to envisage a project that will be a milestone for our firm.”

Nicola Nicolai of Nicola Nicolai Yacht Consulting & Project Management acted as Pre-Purchase Advisor to the Owner and will manage the entire build process as Owner’s Representative and Project Manager. “We are honoured to have been entrusted with the management of a project with so many innovative features and challenging deadlines,” said Nicola Nicolai. “I am thrilled to help the owner’s vision become real especially working with such an experienced shipyard and outstanding team of professionals.”
