Custom Luxury Meets Capability: Nordhavn Delivers N96 OTIUM @ SEA

By Nora Hart

Nordhavn, renowned for building some of the world’s most capable expedition yachts, has announced the delivery of OTIUM @ SEA, hull #19 of the Nordhavn 96 series. Delivered earlier this year to an American yachtsman, the vessel exemplifies the brand’s unique ability to blend ocean-crossing performance with personalised luxury.

A lifelong boater and repeat Nordhavn owner, the Florida-based client was originally building a Nordhavn 80 before deciding to move up to the larger N96 platform. The result is a highly customised long-range yacht tailored for relaxed, family-centred exploration.

Designed by Jeff Leishman, one of OTIUM @ SEA’s most distinctive features is an elevator connecting the main and upper decks, which is an unusual touch on a vessel of this size, speaking to the owner’s emphasis on comfort and accessibility. In another notable customisation, the traditional skylounge was replaced with a full-beam owner’s suite, offering panoramic views and a true penthouse-at-sea experience.

The owner worked closely with Nordhavn’s team throughout the build, selecting rich cherry wood offset by mahogany cross panels, and sourcing over 20 distinct granite slabs for use throughout the yacht. He also contributed to an innovation now being considered for future N96 models: a flybridge lounge pad fitted with swivel tables, ideal for informal dining and cocktails while underway.

Following her maiden voyage to the Bahamas, OTIUM @ SEA has returned to Nordhavn’s commissioning hub in North Palm Beach, Florida, for outfitting ahead of a summer cruising itinerary in the northeastern United States.

In other news, Nordhavn Yachts Sales recently facilitated an off-market sale of LADY DI, hull #3 of the Nordhavn 80. The sellers, represented by Eric Leishman, are planning their third new build with Nordhavn, further evidence of the brand’s loyal following. Meanwhile, ASTURIUS, hull #4 of the N80 series, was delivered earlier this month and will operate part-time as a charter yacht. Her owners are also returning Nordhavn clients.

Founded in 1974, Nordhavn has carved out a niche in the superyacht space by delivering robust, long-range yachts that prioritise safety, comfort, and liveability. With nearly 850 vessels delivered globally and an unwavering commitment to bespoke craftsmanship, the company continues to attract owners who seek serious capability without compromising luxury.
