Damen Launches 55m Yacht Support Blue Ocean

By Jenna Mehdi

In the latest of what has been an undeniably successful series of releases from the Damen Yacht Support range, the Dutch shipyard today announced the official launch of the 55-metre Blue Ocean from its Antalya yard.

Available for delivery this spring, Blue Ocean is the eighth hull of the 55-metre YS 5009 range from the Damen Yacht Support range. Her construction and design has firmly established the versatile nature of the yard’s Yacht Support vessels. Remarkable in a number of ways, Blue Ocean is the first Yacht Support to be built with a large multipurpose Main Deck hangar, providing an array of uses from submersible and dive operations to a workshop or vehicle garage.

True to the standards of the yard’s earlier Yacht Support launches, Blue Ocean is typically capable of a range of support functions and meeting the highest of performance expectations. One of her exceptional features includes a dedicated adventure/dive centre aft, accessed via her swim platform. She also comes equipped with a 12-tonne deck crane, and expansive deck space totalling 240 sq metres providing ample room for lifting and other operations. Blue Ocean is also prepared for stern A-Frame installation.

With a remarkably shallow draft of 3 metres, Blue Ocean has been designed for optimum support and suitability of luxury yacht charters – for example in the shallow waters of the Bahamas. The yard also confirmed that the eighth launch of the YS5009 range features new design enhancements ‘to fit the luxury yachting experience’, as well as ample accommodation for up to 8 guests and 4 staff, as well as crew.

Blue Ocean is the 17th Yacht Support vessel to be launched or under construction at the Damen shipyard, following the first delivery of the range in 2010.
