Daroca Design and SP.9 Reveal 'Disruptive' 50m ODISYE

By Emily Dawkins

British interior design studio SP.9 has collaborated with Spanish yacht design studio Daroca Design to bring a new and ‘disruptive’ superyacht concept to the industry: 50m ODISYE. This new superyacht concept is set to signal a ‘dramatic departure from conventional yacht design’.

With edgy, dynamic curves adorning her exterior contrasted by a soft and welcoming decor inside, ODISYE showcases a unique yet harmonious Yin/Yang approach to yacht design. Penned by Alejandro Crespo, Founder and CEO of Daroca Design and Pei Li, Creative Director of SP.9, the 50m concept embraces the innovative minds of her designers, who set out to ‘redefine design for a new generation of superyacht owners and aficionados’.

The unique superyacht features four spacious decks, all enhanced with different functionalities. A luxurious sundeck is home to a jacuzzi and bar, an elegant bridge deck offers the perfect entertaining area with spaces for al fresco dining or civilised meetings, and the main deck provides a chance to unwind and relax on ‘soft-seating’. Last but by no means least, a sea-level deck features a comfortable TV lounge alongside 360 degree ocean views from a stylish beach club. ODISYE’s dark blue and black metallic exterior signifies a touch of elegance blended with a somewhat sporty finish.

Alejandro Crespo, exterior designer of ODISYE, commented: ‘ODISYE is designed with the modern yacht owner in mind. Energetic and elegant, showing faceted angles and straight lines, the exterior design of ODISYE reflects the way of thinking of this new generation.’

Highlighting the unique Yin/Yang design approach, ODISYE’s interiors reveal an ‘unexpectedly calm’ decor. Tactile textures, rounded forms and a peaceful, neutral colour palette offer guests with a relaxing and contemporary onboard experience. With accommodation for ten guests across one master cabin, three double cabins and one twin cabin offers flexibile and tranquil sleeping arrangements. Luxurious materials such as green onyx, leather panels, and embroidered silk, cleverly diversify the inside spaces. The floor of the main salon is finished in marble, which bounces light around the room, and an adjacent wine-tasting room compliments this with a ‘reeded’ glass wall.

‘I was inspired by the strong personality of new owners, who love the antithesis of sporty chicness and curvilinear elegance with a touch of ancestral artistry’ comments Creative Director Pei Li.

50m ODISYE is the spectacular result of a collaboration that occurred during the height of the pandemic. While COVID swept across the globe, designers Alejandro and Pei began their partnership online, utilising several weekly meetings to blend their distinctive styles and discuss their latest innovative ideas. A unique anomaly between distance and union, tradition and modernity, as well as the diversity of the Spanish and Chinese cultures of the designers, has resulted in the breathtaking yacht that is ODISYE. In the eyes of the designers she breaks 'typical yacht design with elegance', and we can certainly see why.

ODISYE has a gross tonnage of 500 and can accommodate nine crew onboard.
