Dutch Shipyard Van Der Valk Presents Project Capella Build Update

By Danny Wiser

Van der Valk has presented its latest build update of explorer yacht Project Capella.

The 23.56m yacht is under construction for experienced yacht owners to whom she will be delivered in Spring 2023.

She sports a Grade A round bilge, an aluminium superstructure and a rather distinctive full-displacement steel hull.

Veteran Dutch superyacht designer, Guido de Groot, was entrusted with both the exterior and interior design of the vessel.

He said: “I like how well the boat is laid out. There is nothing you miss on board, which is impressive for a boat of this size. Everything fits really well together, and there were no unpleasant surprises during construction that any element of didn’t fit with everything else. We designed the layout first and then designed the exterior around it.”

De Groot worked closely along the owners in creating the "galley-focused" vessel in which he ensured that the kitchen would be the hub of entertainment on board the yacht.

He continued: “All in all, we were looking to create a rustic, homely atmosphere that isn’t too busy or overwhelming.”

With her owners intending to cruise throughout the entire Mediterranean upon delivery, Project Capella will have her home port based on the Balearic Islands.

Nevertheless, guests who stay in her four staterooms can enjoy adventure further afield if they so wish, due to the design of her hull.

Project Capella is completely prepared for both warmer and colder climates, thanks to her cleverly designed windows, insulation and underfloor heating. She could go to places such as the Norwegian fjords without any issues,” said Van der Valk’s General Manager, Bram Kooltjes.
