Echo Yachts’ 58m Multihull Redefines the Sailing Yacht Experience
In a bold statement of innovation and ambition, Australian builder Echo Yachts is constructing what will become the world’s largest luxury sailing catamaran, a full-custom, all-aluminium 58-metre superyacht. Underway at the company’s advanced facility in Henderson, Western Australia, the project marks a significant moment not just for the shipyard, but for the future of large multihull superyachts.
At the heart of the design is a twin DynaRig sail system, a technology made famous by iconic yachts like MALTESE FALCON and BLACK PEARL. Offering silent, emissions-free sailing and exceptional manoeuvrability, the system is paired with a gross tonnage of 1,250 GT, delivering expansive interior volumes rarely seen on sailing vessels. Highly automated and engineered for efficiency, the rig promises minimal crew workload and maximum freedom under sail.
The yacht has been designed in partnership with renowned naval architecture firms Dykstra Naval Architects and One2three Naval Architects. Every element is purpose-built to support adventure cruising, from robust structural engineering to a regenerative energy system that captures power via trawling controllable-pitch propellers. Coupled with a battery bank for energy storage, the system allows for extended zero-emissions cruising, underscoring Echo Yachts’ commitment to sustainability.
Echo Yachts is already well-known for its ground-breaking approach to multihulls, having delivered the 84-metre diesel-electric trimaran WHITE RABBIT and the 56-metre support catamaran CHARLEY 2. These projects, both world-firsts in their class, have positioned the yard as a leader in high-performance, full-custom multihull construction. According to Sales and Marketing Manager Chris Blackwell, industry attitudes towards large multihulls are rapidly evolving:
‘There is growing industry shift, with designers, builders, and operators increasingly recognising the benefits of large multihull superyachts – both motor and sail. As perceptions evolve, and berthing infrastructure improves, the market is becoming more receptive to multihull superyachts. With rising awareness, demand is expected to grow — signalling a promising future for this innovative market sector.’
In addition to new builds, Echo Yachts offers a comprehensive suite of refit and maintenance services, providing flexible, cost-effective solutions for vessels operating across the Australasian region. The shipyard specialises in both aluminium and steel construction, supported by skilled trades and modern facilities.
Looking ahead, Echo Yachts will be attending and available for client meetings at both the Monaco Yacht Show and the Palm Beach International Boat Show, and will be exhibiting in the Refit Hall at METS. With a focus on new-build opportunities and showcasing its expanding refit capabilities, the yard is set to broaden its global reach. Echo Yachts offers something refreshingly different, a shipyard that fuses cutting-edge technology, sustainable design, and an adventurous spirit at the very frontier of luxury yacht building.
