Episode Five 'Tech Solutions' From Top 100: Building Green Giants Launches
After much anticipation, the fifth episode of the documentary series 'Top 100: Building Green Giants' has now launched on Superyachts.com.
Watch the brand-new episode 'Tech Solutions' here.
In this episode, we unite the industry's greatest engineers, and explore how owners are constantly looking for new ways to make sure their build will have less of a negative environmental impact on the world’s oceans, whilst ultimately enhancing their lifestyle on board.
Constantly working to develop new technologies, we learn how the industry is pushing boundaries and affording extensive research into our waters, leading to the worldwide development of green technology.
We delve into a number of groundbreaking solutions, one of them being a dynamic positioning system which allows vessels to stay in place without dropping anchor. This feature allows superyacht, Grace E to cruise in ecologically vulnerable locations such as coral reefs, without damaging the environment.
However, not all tech is this advanced. From water treatment machines and garbage crushing systems to fixtures that measure statistics about the water below and feedback to research bodies, the sky is the limit when it comes to ecological and tech-savvy solutions.
"No garbage can be disposed of in the seas. This is a very clear rule. What we do in our yachts, with Oceanco, to make life easier for the crew, and for our guests on board, is to provide a full set of solutions to handle its storage. We have garbage treatment rooms, where we can compact and crush garbage and glass," says Antonio Caviglia, Sales Director at Oceanco.
SCR technology is also currenty being implemented by and for the shipyards, a sentiment that is second nature to the superyacht world.
"We need to install these converters today. You also need to run them in certain areas," says Giedo Loeff, Head of Research and Development, Feadship.
"It is an amazing system, and is currently in the last stages of development, but will be introduced very soon."
Cutting-edge technology, fueled by silence, informed by aerospace, and designed for the consumer of the future. We also hear from Alois Vieujot, Manager at Enata:
"The Foiler is effectively a flying yacht. We designed it how you would design an aeroplane. Much of its technology is inspired by the aerospace industry, not the marine industry. It uses half the fuel than a normal superyacht would, it's quieter, has basically no weight, and doesn't disrupt the environment around it. Much like Tesla, it has software updates that are continuously improving, with owners being given new features over time. It is a big step into the future of yachting, and offers a completely new experience. Its system turns it into a smart yacht, giving you only what you need, when you need it. These two factors are going to take the marine industry forward in a much greener aspect."
