EXCLUSIVE: First Look at Alia Yachts' 55m AL WAAB II Launch Video

By Jenna Mehdi

Turkish shipbuilder Alia Yachts made headlines last week as it launched the largest steel and aluminium superyacht under 500GT in the world. Now, relive the action in high-definition as Superyachts.com brings our readers an exclusive first look at the exciting new launch video.

AL WAAB II features a sleek design by Dutch studio Vripack, who were tasked with creating a true home-at-sea for the yacht’s owner. Bart Bouwhuis, Co-Creative Director, explains, “The owner of Al Waab II had the explicit desire to use his boat as a family apartment. That desire became the founding principle of the entire design. The result is the very essence of living on the water.”

The first superyacht to launch from Alia Yachts’ new 2000-tonne capacity shiplift - part of a recent investment by the Antalya Free Zone into the local yachtbuilding infrastructure - AL WAAB II marks a significant benchmark for the yard in more ways than one.

Alia Yachts President Gökhan Çelik commented on the enormous flexibility required to work around delays incurred by the pandemic and meet the launch deadline. He adds that the yacht will set “a new standard in external & internal volumes offered to a client in this category”, as average superyacht length is steadily on the rise, while demand for them to weigh in within the all-important 500GT threshold remains high.

AL WAAB II is now set to undergo the final stages of outfitting ahead of sea trials and final delivery. She will be one of an impressive lineup at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show in September.
