Feadship Rebuilds 47m HALCYON in Major 14-Month Refit

When HALCYON arrived at the yard in May 2025, the initial plan centred on a redesigned stern, a full repaint and a series of technical improvements. As the project evolved, however, it became clear that a yacht of this age required far more than a conventional refresh. Advances in onboard systems, connectivity, comfort and operational efficiency had moved on considerably in the quarter-century since her launch, and the scope expanded accordingly.

'When Halcyon arrived, we expected a major refit,' says Captain Joe Gallegos. 'As the project developed, it became clear that we had the opportunity to do much more. With a knowledgeable and enthusiastic owner involved, it all came together.'

The most visible changes are found aft, where the yacht now features a redesigned stern and a new staircase linking the main deck to the swim platform. A completely new finish has also been applied to both hull and superstructure, while the mast was adapted and a number of exterior details were refined as part of the wider programme.

Below deck, the work was even more extensive. The bridge was fully modernised with new equipment and associated interior alterations, while electrical systems throughout the yacht were inspected and upgraded. New alarm, monitoring and power management systems were installed, bringing the yacht’s technical backbone firmly into the present day.

Climate control was entirely renewed, with new chillers, fresh air handling units and fan coils replacing the existing infrastructure. Guest and crew accommodation was also refreshed, with cabins refurbished, marble restored, new blinds fitted and interior finishes renewed throughout. The result is a yacht that retains her classic character while feeling thoroughly reconditioned for modern use.

The scale of the work in the engine room and technical areas was particularly significant. Main engines and gearboxes were overhauled, two new generators were installed and major systems including water production, ventilation, tankage, sewage treatment, heating, freshwater distribution and fuel management were all renewed. Associated piping, cabling and supporting infrastructure were replaced across the yacht.

Further upgrades included new teak decking across most exterior areas, an overhaul of the steering system, servicing of the propeller shafts, bow thruster and rudders, renewal of the cold storage systems, improvements to diving equipment, repainting of tanks and technical spaces, and a complete refurbishment of the underwater hull coating system following sandblasting.

HALCYON is now due to complete final commissioning ahead of redelivery in July. It is a reminder that, in the right hands, a classic Feadship can be brought back not just to life, but to a level that feels entirely contemporary.
