Feadship’s Hybrid Electric Project 1012 Launched

By Frances Flannagan

Spotted leaving Feadship’s construction shed in Makkum, Project 1012 has hit the water for the very first time. Not only is she one of the Top 100 largest superyachts in the world, this outstanding vessel is also the first Feadship to carry full Hybrid Electric Class notation.

91.80m Project 1012 was last spotted emerging from the Bayards Dintelmond facility ready to be transported to Dordrecht, as the industry gained a glimpse of her for the very first time.

She been built for a repeat Feadship owner whose design requests were inspired by his extensive yachting experience. She features design by Sinot & owner related design office with naval architecture by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects, her exterior styling meticulously crafted with very specific input from her Owner and her interiors penned to replicate a understated family home.

Her exterior contours are crisply chamfered, combined with a traditional flared bow, attributing this yacht a modern-classic personality. Despite boasting large volumes, her interiors have been designed to offer cosy and intimate spaces, this inviting atmosphere enhanced by the natural materials and finishes that are used throughout the yacht.

Project 1012 features a spectacular beach club in the stern that occupies one quarter of the total length of the lower deck. On top of this, her fixed stern platform is able to be combined with two fold-down platforms to create a water-level lounging area that spans an impressive 165 sqm.

Two 10m tenders, a ski boat and a comprehensive range of water toys are able to be accommodated in a side-loading garage found between the engine room and the beach club, enhancing her Owner and guests’ connection to the sea. Two rescue tenders are able to be stored on the aft deck, whilst the sundeck serves as an exceptional observation point with a forward-facing sofa and sun loungers.

The main deck can be accessed via sweeping staircases from the stern platform, hosting a large pool and an open-air lounge shaded by the deckhand overhang. Comfortable and luxurious guest suites and staff cabins can be found on the main deck forward, whilst the master stateroom, family lounge and wellness area are located on the upper decks.

The highlight of Project 1012’s design is her hybrid electric propulsion; notably being the first Feadship to boast this classification. Her propulsion plant and onboard energy management has been developed using Feadship’s state-of-the-art technology, comprising two main engines and shaft-driven fixed pitch propellers, coupled with PTO/PTI electric motors of 560kW each and 1MW of Li-ion batteries.

Alongside the conventional diesel propulsion mode, Project 1012’s e-motors work as shaft generators to produce electricity to serve the hotel loads or recharge the battery bank. In addition to this, they also allow for low-speed navigation whilst the generators or batteries produce the required electrical power.

'Working with the experienced owner, designers and owner’s team has been a professional pleasure,’ commented Albert Abma, Project Manager at Feadship. ‘Gathering the operational experience of the owner’s team with the yard’s building experience has resulted in this modern-classic, state-of-art and full custom new Feadship.’

Not only is Project 1012’s launch a milestone moment for Feadship and its road map to zero emissions, her design represents a highly exciting time in the industry where sustainable initiatives are being developed and employed successfully to ensure a greener future for the world of yachting.

We at Superyachts.com cannot wait to follow future updates on this ground-breaking vessel, as she prepares for sea trials prior to delivery.
