First Amels 60 Hull Begins Outfitting

By Jenna Mehdi

Outfitting has commenced on the first hull of the Amels 60 superyacht. The hull has arrived at Damen Yachting’s outfitting yard in the Netherlands and is on track for delivery in spring 2022. The Amels 60 is the first of three Espen Øino-designed yachts now under construction at Amels.

Amels has revealed the first of the three hulls will feature customised design choices throughout catering to the Owner’s personal taste and preference. These include a metallic grey hull with white and black superstructure, and a custom interior by London-based studio Winch Design.

The yacht has been commissioned for an experienced Amels owner, under supervision of the Owner’s representative who has been highly involved with the hull construction at Damen Yachting’s hull-building facility in Gdynia, Poland.

‘The travel restrictions make it difficult,’ the Owner’s Representative comments, ‘But I am very confident in the Amels team. I have full confidence in the management, the production team and also the sub-contractors working on the yacht. I’m looking forward to seeing her in person as soon as possible. The hull looks very exciting.’

Aside from bearing award-winning designer Espen Øino’s signature flair, the Amels 60 is a unique vessel in more ways than one. From her vast open Sun Deck, 9-metre luxury tender and spacious interiors to her hybrid power and propulsion systems, the Amels 60 is fully equipped to meet the demands of the modern Owner.

In a statement, exterior designer Espen says, ‘It’s certainly nice to see some pictures of the hull. A lot of people have complimented us on her looks. She looks beautiful, she looks like what I had in my head.

The thing with modelling in 3D today is you get few surprises. But still nothing replaces the first time you go on board. When you go on board, it comes alive. You know if the spaces feel right. So I’m looking forward to visiting the shipyard.’

Damen Yachting’s in-house interior team will collaborate with Winch Design on the Amels 60’s bespoke interiors. Director of Yachting & Aviation at Winch Jim Dixon described the atmosphere onboard as one of ‘calm and involuntary relaxation’, designed to encapsulate the feel of a relaxed family home-at-sea.

‘For the most part, we have used pure and natural materials to emphasise the relaxed ‘home at the beach’ spirit of the interior,’ Jim says. ‘However, we have added layers of surface interest to materials such as stones and timbers to create unique and tactile finishes.’

The Amels 60 was introduced in 2019, promising a new phase in the yard’s new build development. Amels’ Limited Editions ranges were first introduced in 2007, and the shipyard has delivered over 40 Limited Editions superyachts since. Combined with Damen Yachting’s prowess in engineering and construction, the team has been able to significantly reduce overall delivery time of these highly customisable luxury yachts.
