First Amels 80 Superyacht Now Under Construction

By Emily Dawkins

Damen Yachting has announced that the first unit in its brand-new Amels 80 Limited Editions (Amels 8001) is now officially under construction. Marking the first superyacht from the largest Amels Limited Editions range to date, Amels 8001’s steel was cut at Damen Yachting’s hull building location in Galati, Romania on the 17th May. She will be available for delivery in 2025.

Introduced to the world via an incredible online launch less than three months ago, the brand-new Amels 80 range represents an outstanding achievement for the Dutch yard. According to Damen, two years of dedicated and rigorous design and engineering have ensured that the latest Limited Editions superyachts are nothing short of masterpieces. Combining innovative hybrid technology with the most sustainable materials on the market, the latest Amels range represents a new, greener era for the yard.

Project Manager of the first Amels 80 (8001), Romke van der Linde, commented on the importance of this construction milestone: ‘for all of us at Damen Yachting, the steel cutting of the first Amels 80 is a really significant milestone. It represents the first stage of the build and the start of this new design being transformed into reality. The Amels 80 is a very exciting project to be part of and we are all looking forward to seeing her through the build journey and watch as this new Amels Limited Editions comes to life.’

With timeless exterior design by Espen Øino, and custom interior design by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, the 80m superyacht range has been designed and engineered with the future in mind.

Espen Øino commented on the Amels 80 exterior profile: ‘it turned out to be a very holistic design in the sense that everything seems to be right, starting with a very good layout. It’s a very clear and logical GA and I think we’ve managed to somehow reflect that in the exterior design with relatively simple lines. Simplicity in design does stand the test of time well and I like to think that this will be the case here as well.’

Paul Costerus, Lead Designer at Sinot added: ‘it [Amels 80's interior] is a very neutral and natural palette. Materials are treated in such a way that the natural characteristics remain as pure as possible. The style is distinctive and yet still allows plenty of room for Owners to customise and add their personal style.’

The new Amels 80 not only retains the ‘sought-after Amels DNA’, but it continues the new era of Amels designs, which have seen more than 40 superyachts successfully delivered to date.

Amels 8001 has an expected gross tonnage of 2,175 and can comfortably accommodate 14 guests across seven cabins. She also welcomes 20 crew members and Captain onboard. Amels 8001's next build milestone will be her keel laying, which is scheduled to take place next month. We will cerbe keeping our readers updated on the first Amels 80 superyacht's next construction success.
