HAMPSHIRE and the New Currency of Yachting: Time

By Nora Hart

In today’s superyacht market, priorities are subtly shifting. Length and volume still matter, pedigree still commands respect, but increasingly a defining luxury is time. Few yachts capture this shift more convincingly than HAMPSHIRE. Fresh from an extensive yard period at Barcelona’s MB92 and having completed her 10-year Lloyd’s survey, the 66.25-metre yacht returns to the market offering both Northern European heritage and immediate readiness.

For Henry Smith, Broker and Partner at Cecil Wright, HAMPSHIRE reflects a broader recalibration among sophisticated buyers. ‘Time has always been a commodity,’ he notes, ‘but it’s accentuated today.’ While this does not diminish the appeal of commissioning from the world’s finest shipyard, it has certainly broadened the conversation.

This shift is showing buyers increasingly turning towards proven yachts with exceptional foundations and investing in comprehensive refits. Built by Feadship and delivered in 2016 to a design by Harrison Eidsgaard, HAMPSHIRE represents exactly that proposition: a platform engineered to uncompromising standards, now technically refreshed to meet contemporary expectations. Her recent works amount to what Smith describes as an ‘engineering reset’, with major systems scrutinised, hull repainted and survey milestones completed, delivering operational assurance typically associated with a new build but without the wait.

The appeal of such yachts lies not only in speed to market, but in certainty. When a vessel is newly built, questions can linger around maintenance and future expenditure. In contrast, a yacht that has just completed her 10-year survey offers clarity. Buyers know precisely where they stand. ‘You’re buying something with good bones,’ Smith explains. ‘There’s proven engineering excellence there.’

The enduring elegance of HAMPSHIRE also demonstrates where value can reside in an older build versus commissioning from scratch. Her exterior lines and light-filled interiors remain unchanged, preserving the integrity of her original design, while thoughtful updates, including the addition of a bespoke gin bar in the skylounge, bring new interest. On board, guests find a beach club and spa close to the waterline, expansive deck spaces, two helipads and accommodation for up to 12–14 guests supported by a crew of 17.

As Cecil Wright approaches their 13th anniversary, the firm anticipates that comprehensively refitted, ready-to-cruise yachts will play an ever larger role within their carefully curated portfolio. The brokerage’s philosophy has always centred on quality over quantity, and the resurgence of intelligently transformed pedigree yachts aligns naturally with that approach.

In that context, HAMPSHIRE is more than a yacht returning to market. She is a case study in how ownership is evolving, where pedigree, preparation and the intelligent use of time define modern ownership.
