Heesen Launches 55m MY RELIANCE Ex. Project Gemini

By Emily Dawkins

Dutch shipyard Heesen Yachts has announced that its 55m YN 19755, formerly known as Project Gemini and now named MY Reliance, has officially hit the water. The superyacht, from Heesen’s 55m Steel FDHF series, is due for delivery in autumn this year before joining the charter fleet of Arcon Yachts.

With exterior design by Dutch design studio Omega Architects and interiors by Italian designer Luca Dini Design and Architecture, the stunning 55m MY Reliance is certainly another impressive Heesen build.

‘I would like to congratulate our incredible colleagues for their commitment to working hard to meet this important deadline,’ commented Rick van de Wetering, Heesen COO. ‘It is a collective success that we also achieved thanks to the impeccable collaboration with our suppliers, who are an integral part of our success and who we consider part of our extended family.’

Despite beginning her build process on speculation, MY Reliance’s new owner joined the project 15 months in, after being introduced to Heesen by Arcon Yachts Monaco. Due to this, the in-house engineering team at Heesen were able to implement essential modifications onboard to ensure that the 55m was tailored to her new owner’s lifestyle and design preferences. An opening window in the master suite and a new bathroom layout were some of the adaptations that were made.

A notable highlight of MY Reliance is her shark grey hull colour, which was chosen by her new owner to signify a ‘strong character’, and pairs well with the dynamic exterior penned by Frank Laupman of Omega. The unique ‘shark tooth’ of the vessel’s superstructure overhang is a stand-out feature of the 55m steel exterior, and is perfectly echoed through the owner’s colour preference.

MY Reliance is the first Heesen yacht in a new collaboration with Luca Dini Design and Architecture. The Italian studio worked closely with the owners and Arcon Yachts' project manager to ensure that the interiors were stylised to taste.

Richard Kaye of Arcon Yachts commented on the launch: ‘We are pleased that Heesen was able to meet yet another important milestone in the construction of this 55-metre. The experience of the shipyard in the construction of its Series yachts is an awesome guarantee for our clients. Time is priceless for our customers. Consequently, for us as the broker, it is invaluable that the shipyard can stick to the schedule. It reinforces our credibility and reassures the client about their choice.’

The 55m superyacht can comfortably accommodate 12 guests across six cabins. A 82sqm owner’s ‘apartment’ is located forward on the main deck, with a VIP cabin on the bridge deck, and two double cabins and two twins situated on the lower deck.

We would like to congratulate all those involved on this successful launch, and we are looking forward to seeing MY Reliance on sea trials in the coming months.
