Heesen Launches Largest Steel Motor Yacht to Date: 67m SPARTA

By Frances Flannagan

MY Sparta, Heesen’s largest steel motoryacht, has been launched. She is an impressive collaboration between Heesen and Winch Design, now due to undergo the final commissioning stages before sea trials.

Heesen and Winch Design have collaborated on this impressive motoryacht which grew out of the Project Avanti concept presented at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2018. She remains true to the original concept, with only minor adjustments, resulting in a unique, low-profile yacht that looks remarkable on water.

SPARTA has a dashing look with a combination of classic and contemporary touches, Venetian red and anthracite grey accents prevailing. Her length and slender form is augmented by a reverse bow, contributing to the sporty aesthetic. Thermobonded tinted glass sweeps from bow to stern, elegantly complimenting SPARTA’s form.

Peter van der Zanden, Head of Engineering, comments: ‘At Heesen, we take pride in our ability to create complex custom yachts that are expertly engineered and built to meet the highest Dutch quality standards. Our team eagerly embraces the challenges posed by full-custom yachts. It's an opportunity for us to showcase the exceptional levels of excellence we can achieve. Sparta is a testament to our commitment to delivering the finest superyachts.’

Sociability is a key element of SPARTA, with the concept of togetherness at the heart of her design. This is showcased on the main deck aft, which features a full-beam main saloon that connects with the low, open-air beach terrace. Access to the water is made easy with a transformer passerelle platform, and the 6.5m infinity pool beautifully mirrors the vastness of the ocean.

SPARTA's outdoor spaces have been outfitted with custom-designed furniture by Winch Design that has been beautifully hand crafted by Siebensee and Leerdam. Winch Design fully utilised the generous 1,200 GT interior volume; with two separate owner’s suites located on a private deck and four guest suites on the main deck. The sociable nature of SPARTA can again be seen in the movable partition separating the forward suites, with the ability to create a full-beam area.

Her elegance continues to be showcased. throughout, as a beautiful staircase and glass elevator serve all three of SPARTA’s decks. Located on the lower deck is a 65 sqm, Japanese-inspired wellness area, featuring all of the luxuries you would expect from a yacht this breathtaking; an elliptical whirlpool, steam room and gym to name a few.

Highlighting the thought placed behind the interior design, Winch Design based each deck on a different element: the lower deck is themed around water, the main deck around earth, and the upper deck around air. The elements flow beautifully into and from one another with an oak staircase by London furniture maker Alex Hull.

Heesen owns a fine cabinet-making company and is one of the few shipyards in the world to do so. This unique aspect of the shipyard is translated to SPARTA, which features the stunning cabinetwork by the talented cabinetmakers employed by Heesen.

Richard Kaye of Arcon Yachts has been working with Sparta's owners as project manager and has commented, ‘This is the fifth project we have built with Heesen, and the mutual trust that has grown up between us is particularly gratifying. We know our input is valued, and we hold the expertise of this Dutch shipyard and the unrivalled quality it delivers in the highest esteem.’

SPARTA will undergo the final commissioning phases in Heesen’s harbour and will soon head out for intensive sea trials. Superyachts.com wishes SPARTA the best of luck in the next stages of her development.
