Heesen Yachts Delivers 50m M/Y BOOK ENDS

By Emily Dawkins

The 50m semi-displacement motor yacht ‘Book Ends’ has been successfully delivered to her owner. Built by leading Dutch shipyard Heesen Yachts, the aluminium vessel, previously referred to as Project Sapphire, is the second superyacht to be delivered by Heesen this year.

With a versatile shallow draft of 2.15m and an impressive top speed of over 23 knots, 50m Book Ends is a ‘thoroughbred racehorse’. An unparalleled example of the Heesen philosophy, Book End’s performance has been developed thanks to the smart and innovative engineering of her Dutch builders.

Heesen Yachts’ 50m Aluminium Semi-displacement Series, which Book Ends is designed from, is the first superyacht range below 500 GT to comply with IMO Tier-III regulations. A low-drag, lightweight hull and reduced transom featured within each yacht in this series also welcomes an efficiency increase of roughly 12%.

Book End’s owner, experienced American yachtsman, Bob Book, commented at the delivery of 50m Book Ends: ‘building a new boat on time and on budget is always a challenge. This past year was particularly challenging with the remnants of Covid and Various Sanctions. Despite what seemed like overwhelming odds, the Heesen team continued working closely with the Book Ends team in Oss to make the dream a reality.’

Featuring sporty yet elegant features, and roomy onboard spaces, Book Ends is the ultimate adaptable vessel, offering comfortable cruising for both quick-island hops and long voyages at a cruising speed of 11 knots and range of 3,100 nautical miles.

Inside, 12 guests can find lavish accommodation across five staterooms, with particular attention given to a forward, main deck master suite. With several outdoor areas for entertaining, relaxing, and alfresco dining, including a spacious beach club which offers a close connection to the water, Book Ends is an exemplar luxury superyacht, perfect for friends and family.

Thanks to an extraordinary combined team effort, this state-of-the-art vessel has been delivered on time with the highest Heesen standards of excellence,’ added Book Ends owner, Bob Book, ‘this boat is not a “Race Horse”, it is a Race Car”. While I thank the entire Heesen team, I must give a special “THANK YOU’ to Mark Cavendish for his much needed sense of humour and determination for keeping all concerned on the path forward, and to our Captain Mark Lacey.’

Friso Visser, Chief Commercial Officer at Heesen commented: ‘being entrusted for the second time in under four years by such an experienced yachtsman is a source of great pride to our shipyard. Everyone worked tirelessly to ensure the owners and their family could enjoy their new yacht this summer. May their days onboard Book Ends be filled with fun and joy wherever they may cruise!’

We can’t wait to see Book Ends cruising the globe very soon.
