HERE COMES THE SUN Makes London Outing After Extensive Refit

By Danny Wiser

The Beatles’ classic Here Comes The Sun was recorded in London’s Abbey Road Studios in 1969; over half a century later a yacht of the same name makes her way to her spiritual home back in the UK’s capital.

HERE COMES THE SUN made her first public appearance away from the Dutch shipyard where she was refit against the iconic London skyline.

Having undergone a six metre extension from when she was first built in 2018, Damen Yachting’s project manager Sander Peeters was on site at Vlissingen City shipyard to bid farewell to the now 89m yacht.

He said: “Seeing her leave the yard is a very emotional moment and we look forward to following her next chapter and adventures with her owner.”

Peeters described the project as “very large scale and complex” having undergone a complete transformation at the request of her new owners.

Amels’ refit not only included an extension to the fleet itself but also a full respray with colour change giving passers by in London the opportunity to marvel at a totally transformed yacht stylistically as well as in size.

The extension allows for space for a helicopter landing area as well as extra space for a larger beach club, spa and pool for those on board to wind down on.

Naval architects originally involved in the delivery of HERE COMES THE SUN, Azure Yacht Design once again took part in helping execute her majestic style before setting sail across the world.
