LEVIATHAN Delivered: A People-Focused 111m Milestone for Oceanco
Oceanco has officially delivered LEVIATHAN, the 111-metre diesel-electric superyacht that marks a decisive shift towards people-centred design and purposeful operation. Fresh from her successful sea trials off Stellendam, the vessel stands as one of the largest in the shipyard’s fleet and the first major project completed since the yard’s acquisition by Gabe Newell.
From the outset, LEVIATHAN was shaped not by tradition but by collaboration. Crew were brought into the design process as essential contributors, ensuring that day-to-day realities informed both layout and technical solutions. This approach has resulted in a yacht that blends efficiency, comfort and operational clarity, emphasising enhanced working environments and stronger team dynamics on board.
The yacht replaces high-maintenance materials with durable, low-upkeep alternatives, such as composite capping rails, composite decks and full-height glass bulkheads. Interiors feature honed stone and natural wool carpets, selected to reduce repetitive maintenance and redirect crew time towards higher-value tasks, guest experience and scientific activity. The design and construction team, composed of Oceanco, Lateral Naval Architects, Mark Berryman Design, YTMC and Y.CO, worked in continuous alignment to ensure the project’s core purpose remained central from concept to completion.
A distinctive glass panel installed in the main staircase bears the names of more than 2,000 individuals who contributed to the build, perfectly symbolising the collective effort behind LEVIATHAN and the project’s emphasis on human connection.
Her diesel-electric propulsion system, supported by advanced energy storage, enables extended periods of low-emission operation. The yacht also incorporates high-standard wastewater treatment and is configured to support scientific research as well as hospitality, reinforcing her multi-role capabilities.
As LEVIATHAN enters service, she represents not merely a new build, but a reimagining of how large vessels can be designed, lived on and operated, with purpose, collaboration and people at their core.
"Leviathan represents a new philosophy of yachting - one that places greater purpose at the heart of design, ownership and operations."
