LEVIATHAN: Oceanco’s 111m Vision of Purpose Over Tradition

By Sophia Spanton

With the unveiling of LEVIATHAN, OCEANCO has delivered far more than another landmark in superyacht construction, they have launched a philosophy. Measuring 111 metres in length, this extraordinary diesel-electric vessel refuses to be bound by tradition, instead placing people, purpose and performance at the very heart of her creation. From the moment her keel was laid, the guiding principle was clear: to build a yacht that works in harmony with those who live and work on board, and in doing so, redefine the way we imagine life at sea.

Commissioned by an experienced owner with a profound belief in team building and crew wellbeing, LEVIATHAN’s journey has been one of collaboration from the outset. Crew were invited into the design process as essential voices whose operational insight shaped the yacht’s every contour and decision. In place of high-maintenance traditions came innovation that served both form and function: honed stone and natural wool carpets, composite capping rails and decks, and full-height glass superstructure bulkheads delivering panoramic views while reducing upkeep. These choices enhance both beauty and practicality, allowing attention to flow to what truly matters on board.

The owner’s vision was brought to life by a distinguished team: naval architecture from Lateral Naval Architects in partnership with Oceanco, exterior design by Oceanco itself, and interiors by Mark Berryman Design. Every element was fine-tuned in concert with YTMC and Y.CO, the owner’s representatives, who ensured the philosophy remained constant from blueprint to launch. The result is a yacht of striking presence, sharp lines and unshakable purpose.

Such was the spirit of unity behind LEVIATHAN that a glass panel now graces her main staircase, intricately engraved with the names of more than 2,000 individuals who contributed their skill and dedication to her build. It is a permanent tribute to the fact that this yacht was built by people, for people.

Dan Morgan, Managing Director at YTMC, describes LEVIATHAN as ‘a sanctuary of comfort where silence meets strength, Leviathan wrapped in her sharp lines represents a superb synergy of form and function.’

Charlie Birkett, CEO and Co-Founder, Y.CO adds, ‘She is not just a high-performance vessel. She is a working ecosystem, designed to support everything from world-class hospitality to scientific research. That is what happens when you put people and purpose, at the centre.’

As she prepares to embark on her sea trials, anticipation builds not only to see her cutting through the waves, but to witness the influence her people-led philosophy might have across the wider industry. LEVIATHAN is not simply a yacht, she is a challenge to convention and a promise that the future of yachting will be defined by intent as much as by luxury.
