LUCA DINI Design & Architecture Unveils Genie Blu as a Study in Seaborne Living
With the launch of the 45m Genie Blu, LUCA DINI Design & Architecture has completed a yacht built around a clear and compelling idea: the sea should take centre stage. Rather than pursuing volume for its own sake, the studio has shaped a vessel that prioritises openness, transparency and a direct connection to the surrounding environment.
Working from an existing exterior design and developing the interiors, the team has delivered a yacht that moves away from traditional superyacht conventions. Instead of placing emphasis on enclosed spaces and gross tonnage, Genie Blu is defined by clean lines, generous glazing and a layout that encourages guests to experience life on board from the outside in.
A key feature of the design is the fully glazed main deck, which dissolves the usual divide between interior and exterior spaces and allows natural light to play a central role throughout the yacht. Outdoor areas have been given equal weight to interior living spaces, creating a fluid and adaptable environment that supports everything from quiet family cruising to larger social gatherings.
'Too often yachts are conceived around volume and numbers. With Genie Blu, we wanted to reverse that approach,' says Luca Dini, Founder and Creative Director of LUCA DINI Design & Architecture. 'The project is based on subtraction rather than addition. We removed barriers, reduced unnecessary volume and opened the yacht wherever possible. The objective was not to maximise gross tonnage, but to maximise the owner’s experience of the sea.'
That philosophy continues inside, where the interior language reflects the yacht’s open and transparent character. Natural textures, neutral tones and refined detailing create a calm and cohesive atmosphere, while materials and colour choices echo the exterior environment. The result is a space that feels elegant without being overstated, and distinctly connected to its seagoing setting.
'Luxury today is no longer about excess,' Dini adds. 'It is about authenticity, comfort and emotional connection. We wanted guests to feel they are living aboard a yacht, surrounded by the sea, rather than inside a floating showroom.'
With Genie Blu, LUCA DINI Design & Architecture presents a contemporary interpretation of superyacht design, one that places experience ahead of metrics and treats the yacht as a frame for life at sea.
