Lürssen at 150: Honoured by The People Who Know It Best

By Sophia Spanton

In yachting, few names carry the weight of Lürssen. Marking 150 years of family shipbuilding, the German shipyard’s anniversary is not only a celebration of heritage, but a reminder of the partnerships and trust that have defined its journey.

To mark this milestone, Superyachts.com has gathered reflections from some of the most prominent figures in the superyacht industry. These personal tributes, highlighting respect, collaboration, and long-term relationships, will be shared gradually across our social channels, Lürssen’s platforms, and those of every company taking part, over the next three weeks. Culminating in three long-form episodes that will be released on Superyachts.com.

From world-renowned brokers such as Jamie Edmiston, Jonathan Beckett, and Chris Cecil-Wright, to leading designers including Andrew Winch, Dickie Bannenberg, Tim Heywood, and Espen Oeino, the series showcases insights from the biggest names across the superyacht industry. Competitors of equal stature like Feadship and Oceanco also share their perspectives, underscoring Lürssen’s lasting influence and respected position.

‘How do you design a birthday for a shipyard that has been going for 150 years? That’s the impossible question,’ says Charlie Baken, Director of RWD. His observation cuts to the heart of the challenge in marking such a significant milestone.

If the question is what kind of gift suits this occasion, the answer is clear. What makes this anniversary remarkable is the calibre of voices coming together to mark it. Some of the most respected names in superyachting, brokers, designers, and even competing shipyards, have taken time to recognise Lürssen’s impact.

Lürssen’s 150th anniversary is not just a marker of years passed but a testament to the long-term relationships that continue to define the shipyard. In the words of Andrew Winch:

‘Celebrating 150 years, Lürssen, Peter, your family, it has been an honour to work with you. I know that Lürssen shipyard will be here for another 150 years. I know that Lürssen shipyard will be here for another 150 years.’

Follow along on our new Instagram. This new account reflects a deliberate move away from our previous presence, which had become cluttered and inconsistent. It will serve as a clean, highly curated platform tailored specifically to the docuseries and editorial content we are now producing. The three long-form episodes of the docuseries will be published on Superyachts.com in October, as well as on Lürssen’s YouTube channel.
