By George Bains

On Australia’s sun-drenched east coast is the unassuming superyacht hotspot of the Gold Coast. An unmissable stop-off between the Great Barrier Reef and Sydney, a luxury getaway in the Gold Coast can be anything you want it to be. Superyachts on the Gold Coast benefit from state-of-the-art marina facilities which will put you at the heart of the action, with super service and a serene setting to put you in a state of bliss. Here we pick out two of our favourite superyacht marinas on the Gold Coast.

A city of two halves, the Gold Coast manages to be both a surfing paradise layered in boho-chic, and an elegant centre for the well-heeled. From lazy days on the glorious beaches to adventures in UNESCO-protected rainforests, the Gold Coast is an all-encompassing destination for indulgent escapes. With 300 days of sunshine each year and over 57 kilometres of enticing sandy beaches, the Gold Coast epitomises the spirit of outdoor living and adventure. Visiting superyachts have a phenomenal choice of luxury marinas to care for the vessel and crew during a stay on the Gold Coast.

Southport Yacht Club

Established in 1946, the Southport Yacht Club is a staple of the Australian yachting community. Located on The Spit, a scenic sandy strip just north of the city, the Southport Yacht Club places superyachts in the heart of the action. Within a short walk of the Club is the Gold Coast’s Main Beach and tourist hub of Surfers Paradise,

There is plenty of reasons not to even leave the Club on a beautiful day under the Queensland sun. The Southport Yacht Club offers a wide range of amenities and guest spaces which can be enjoyed right on the waterfront.

This establishment is well-known to keep owners, captains and crew all happy and entertained, with superyachts often extending their stay. The Main Beach Clubhouse is a unique north-facing open-air waterfront restaurant and bar, providing the perfect setting for delicious cocktails, overlooking the Marina whilst you soak up the gorgeous Gold Coast climate. The Quarterdeck 4Shore Bar has a relaxed casual vibe and comfortable

There is a hive of yachting activity all year round at the Southport Yacht Club, from major yacht regattas and water sports to hosting industry events in the extensive functional rooms. Guests at SYC enjoy regular entertainment at the Club, including live music hosted on the Quarterdeck.

The Southport Yacht Club’s prestige as a superyacht facility will only grow in the coming years, with the 300-berth Marina currently undergoing a significant expansion which will add Australia’s largest superyacht berth at 163-metres in length.

Sanctuary Cove

Sanctuary Cove is the host marina of one of Australia’s major annual yachting events, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. The Marina and adjacent Marine Village offer a full-service superyacht experience, with plenty of luxury amenities which embrace the lifestyle associated with superyachts.

Huge investments have gone into both the Marina and surrounding precinct to create a world-class yachting destination. The Five Gold Anchor Marina is just a short distance from the shipyards in the Gold Coast Marine Precinct, making it a popular choice for superyachts headed to the Gold Coast for refit and maintenance work. Over 300 moorings accommodate vessels of up to 50m in length, and guests revel in the serene atmosphere and array of activities in the surrounding area.

The Marine Village has a charming whitewashed aesthetic which generates a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for unwinding and immersing yourself in the yachting lifestyle. The Village acts as a resort for visiting yachts, with boutique shopping and waterfront fine-dining. Sanctuary Cove is a complete destination within itself with a Golf and Country Club for as well as its own opulent Intercontinental resort.
